Have been hammering Peter Hammill 'The Peel Sessions' lately, in the car earlier.

Incredible version of 'The Faint-Heart and the Sermon ' and also 'Mr X (gets Tense)'
Why, oh why, did they include the dreadful 1988 session on this though? The other BBC recordings from the 70s would have fitted far better.

Now playing 'In Camera'

'The Comet, The Course, The Tail' is amazing, but the tracks on 'The Peel Sessions' are better for their simplicity on the BBC version.

For those interested in listening to profound music. Includes the piano transcriptions of Bach's organ works (BWV 542, 543, 544, 545, 546, 547, & 548) and to starts, a wonderful transcription created by the combination of Allegri's Miserere mei Deus and Mozart's Ave verum corpus.

A nice cross-section ranging from selections within Annees de pelerinage to a fine arrangement of "Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen. Prelude after Bach," which I believe comes from the cantata BWV 12.

Tiger Okoshi / Two Sides to Every Story

Hi Haim,

What's your opinion on the XRCD's?

Larry

Larry,

Tiger Okoshi is very good at both ends; blowing hard & fast as well as doing the slower and more gentle tunes.

I could not find anything besides JVC xrcd samplers which carry few tracks of Okoshi. The sound of the disc is warm and dynamic.

Ian,

I did not get this Goldberg variations just because I already have so many versions of this music. If you are enjoying Hewitt's playing you should listen to her Clavier Book No II (Bach) & the Rameau discs which are among her best.

Mozart's Magic Flute from Salzburg. The Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Wilhelm Furtwangler (a kind gift from a friend). I only wish the audience hadn't insisted on clapping over the music.
