Free System Projekt - 'Protoavis'
Seeing them in Leicester this Saturday if any retro electronic music fans (Tangerine Dream etc.) are around then.

Jazz meets Americana... it works amazingly well.
Currently available for 7.50 Euros from the Act website, I believe.

Mozart's Marriage of Figaro (in German!) from Furtwangler and the VPO at Salzburg in 1953. Magical. Thank you George.
Interestingly, I barely noticed it's in German. That's not to say it's not very apparent, just that, as with a good English translation (say under the baton of one Charles Mackerras) it doesn't jar with the beauty of Mozart's music.
regards, Tam

Haim, I totally agree with you on the Medtner. He grows on you and somehow is very addictive. I have the Forgotten Melodies which are almost dwarfed alongside the larger scale sonatas in a four cd set. Maybe less accessible but equally enjoyable in my mind.![]()
Florestan and Mark,
The Mellodies are magic and I am grateful to have found them. I was not familiar with Medtner's music so I chose the single disc. I felt pretty safe going with Hamelin who never disappoints in his piano playing.

Haim

Before bed a little more from this magical box. This time the Dvorak's 3rd symphony from Kubelik and the BPO. What a sparkling little gem of a piece this is. I don't see why he didn't feel it was up to publication.

Another outstanding Harry Manx album.
Great versions of Voodoo Chile and Danny O'Keefe's Good Time Charlie.

For the past 2 days I have been making my way through 'The Chess Story 1947-1975'. Have to say my knowledge of blues is pretty limited but this does seem to me to be absolutely fantastic!
I'm up to 1956 now...
