Selling England by the Pound - Genesis

OK Larry, I think you might have just tempted me into one more CD tonight. It's a difficult call but this is probably my favourite of the Gabriel era Genesis albums what with Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show

It's hard to stop a good thing... two of my favorite songs on this album too. I would have to say this is tied with Foxtrot as my as favorite Genesis albums.

Yes Foxtrot is damm good - how could it not be with the fantastic Supper's Ready. I would have to add Trick of the Tail, Duke and Seconds Out into my shortlist of favourite Genesis albums, with Seconds Out coming out my winner due to the amazing instrumentals sections of Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show.

Not a bad disc, but her voice reminds me of Lulu and once you get that image in your mind it's difficult to take the music seriously. The comparisons with Dusty are a little off the mark as well.

Jeff, may I ask if you think this collection is still worth buying if I already have all her albums?

Hi Gordon, I am probably not the best to answer, I only have this, Tigerlily and a 10,000 Maniacs disc by NM.
Maybe Gian or others will give some perspective, I believe I have seen him/them "post" more/different discs than I have and the relationship to the Retrospective.

I don't really see the comparison with Lulu. So that's not an issue for me. I hear a good album from a girl with a great voice. My only reservation is the recording - which is TOO LOUD.
