A very good record imho.

Gian my friend,

I know that you own a couple of Kurtags yourself but If I remember correctly, last time you posted one of them it was early in the Bronze Age...

I like this a lot. I'm glad I didn't let the appalling artwork and title put me off.

I'm listening to a... "Talking Birthday Card"!

There is a cartoon picture of Ozzy Osborne on the front and the caption -

...we asked a well known celebriy to comment on your age...

When i open the card i hear him say,

"Oorha - I don't f<bleep>ing care how old you are!..
<illegible-bit> purn are ya' f<bleep>ing Paranoid!.. SHAaaRRON"!

~<>~

So shocked i am, at this most disgraceful and abusive celebratory correspondence, delivered to my door on my birthday, i've decided to regain my posture and console myself by playing some wholesome and regenerative classic 70's Three Strings with Percussion Quartet from Birmingham...

1. War Pigs
2. Paranoid
3. Planet Caravan
4. Iron Man
5. Electric Funeral
6. Hand Of Doom
7. Rat Salad
8. Fairies Wear Boots

Long time no hear!... released in 1976,

...what a great blast from the past! : )

I've just listened to a couple of lp's I picked up today - first was the new Van Morrison Keep it Simple album which sounded mighty fine, including the fourth side which has three bonus live tracks you don't get on the cd and second was Dire Straits Brothers in Arms.

Even though I leave my system powered up, and even though I had the record player spinning a good half hour before using it, Van's album was, I suspect, a bit sacrificial as part way through the first side of Brothers the whole sound stage both snapped into more focus and expanded dynamic range. The remastered lp sounds astonishing - so much going on in that album I hadn't noticed before. Think I'll stop while I'm ahead!

for some reasons, i've never listened to this Santana album before.

I've spotted it at a local record shop yesterday, and this is a good one.

New arrival. Utterly beautiful. I am not a great fan of all these women taking up singing, accompanied by small jazz combos, so this was an experiment. Which turned out to be a success. Only at third song, but mind made up, already:

Essential Purcell - the King's Consort. I have had this disc since it was released, it is an excellent sampler of Hyperion's wonderful Purcell series. The bell anthem is a key test piece for me when evaluating the pacing and tonality of any new kit. But ignore that, this is just wonderful music, performed wonderfully.

Not a bad disc, but her voice reminds me of Lulu and once you get that image in your mind it's difficult to take the music seriously. The comparisons with Dusty are a little off the mark as well.

I don't really see the comparison with Lulu. So that's not an issue for me. I hear a good album from a girl with a great voice. My only reservation is the recording - which is TOO LOUD. Big Grin

I agree, I like her voice and she wrote some very good songs, even my wife likes the record Winker - the recording is borderline in terms of loudness.
