Sun Kil Moon (Mark Kozelek) 'April' (2008)
This album is not losing any of its initial beauty with many repeated playings.

In my books, not one of their strongest CD's. what's your take on it, sloop ?

Another library disc:-

Posted on: 29 May 2008 by naim_nymph

~<>~ Heinrich Ignaz Franz Von Biber (1644-1704) ~<>~

The Mystery Sonatas
John Holloway ~ violin
Davitt Moroney ~ chamber organ, harpsichord
Tragicomedia
Stephen Stubbs ~ baroque lute, chitarrone
Erin Headley ~ viola de gamba, lirone
Andrew Lawrence-King ~ double harp, regal

Recorded at St.Martin's church Newbury Berkshire July 1989

The church acoustics emphasise how screechy a violin can be. To me, this detracts from how beautiful the violin performance is, (and it is very good imho), a pity they didn’t use absorbency materials to counter this at the time. Maybe the church setting was needed for it’s resident organ use, however this doesn’t play an impressive part in the sonatas ...seems to just groan a sustained note now and again.
Considering the small ensemble of players this could have been worked in a studio to much greater effect.

Does anyone know a better version?

What other Oregon would you recommend Stefan?

Retro-a-go-go

Apart from the sound quality, which is crystal.

Just got this CD and it's fab. Has a strange song about cats mind you...

Not sure why country albums have such crap covers, but the music is good.

Fozz,

I've ordered the Swop CD on the strength of the two samples on MySpace. Sounds good.

Stefan, Sloop - this link may be of interest if you haven't already seen it:

Oregon Live

It's also worth searching for "Ralph Towner" (or, indeed, "Jimmy Giuffre") on the same site. Winker

Cheers

steep learning curve here, just found out about rapidshare and then had to navigate "rar" files.

Nonetheless I have an Oregaon 1972 concert to listen to over the Whit weekend in Dublin (well Dungarvan actually as mt son is part of a hurling team and their annual trip down the country is on this weekend - don't think it will make the IPOD selection while driving but I may get a listen in the wee hours one night.
