I enjoyed the first listen through in general, however, I just had an ever growing concern about the recorded sound quality in this vol. 4. Now I have to listen to volumes 1-3 again as I don't remember being so annoyed about this in the earlier releases. Can't remember the individual details except that I distinctly remember being very impressed and pleased in particular with the recorded sound quality especially of the B flat major, Op. 106 sonata on vol. 2.

This is good, lovely husky voice as of some other singers of late but big Choons behind her instead of being fiddly and twee

First listen (and first encounter with Solal) - sounds very promising.

Nigel,

The Solal solo is an excellent album. The old guy does not seem to slow down.

Haim

Thanks Haim - I was going to ask for recommendations, having just "discovered" Solal - I'll definitely add that one to the list. He sure is pretty spry for an 80 year old!

NAC 82 is home running with 1 HiCap ATM and it sounds superb :-

Stopped half way and put the second HiCap in, even betterer. This first couple of seconds of this album always has me worried the speakers or amp have just blown,it may be just me of course:-

Jochum and the Concertgebouw in an unusual pairing of Beethoven's 5th and 8th symphonies.

This to be followed by United Archives latest release of the Budapest Quartet's archive recordings. Though, in truth, this disc of Schubert is the Quartet adulterated for the Trout (joined by Mieczyslaw Horszowski on piano and Georges Moleux on double bass) and the Quintet D956 (with Benar Heifetz as the extra cello).
