It is indeed a great disc, or er.. well 2 actually! ; )
This is presently my favourite album, superb musically and so well played, if one excuses the strange mumbling noises of Jordi Savall this is the best kind of recording too.
I'd never heard of Marin Marais before a couple of weeks ago, now i wonder why he isn't far more recognised for his marvellous compositions.

I have more Marias music on order : )

Needed something with a bit more oomph. This will do nicely.

~<>~ Franz Schubert (1797-1828) ~<>~

STRING QUARTET "Death and the Maiden" D.810 `arranged by G Mahler 40:09

'ARPEGGIONE' SONATA D.821, for cello and string orchestra 26:28

Michal Kanka ~ cello
Pavel Hula ~ conductor
Praga Camerata

Recorded in Prague Domovina Studio @ 2007

Fantastic music and fine performing too. But not so sure if these praga cd’s are really holding up to their credentials of SACD and DSD (direct stream digital). I hate to say this but maybe they sound slightly too compressed, the music a little distant despite it’s… loudness.
It maybe me just being tired… the ‘arpeggione’ is my nightcap before retiring to my bed… i'll play it again later today : )

I nearly did not buy this but very glad I did. A superb collection of Dylan songs by a lot of great artists.

Nymph,
I had the same experience (re:Marais). There actually IS some more on the market, try the Hille Perl recordings, which are also excellent (on Harmonia Mundi)

This vinyl is on its first play.

What is it like? Not familiar with Mystery Walk except Black Stations/White Stations, of course. Is it anything like This Is The Ice Age? It knows it is more Martha + Mark than the Muffins, but as they were/are the core of this great band and it has Daniel Lanois as producer then it should still have that winning quality.

Martha and Mark are re-mastering and re-releasing all their albums through Muffin Music, but it is taking a long time. At least we can look forward to Danesparc. Mystery Walk is not too hard to get on vinyl there are quite a few in the Amazon stores, for example - so I might do that.

Strange when you think that some other groups' titles are continually re-released in slightly different packages when we only need them once.

I think Toronto would be a great place for my next holiday - Smile

ATB Rotf

Oh well I think I'll play this Once Again
