Number Four from the set. All the space, musically, in the world! A very special blend of wisdom and clarity fill this music making with an otherworldly brilliance that has nothing to do with the superficial!

Original sound recording in 1986

Digital mastering 1986 [ADD] EMI Records Ltd. Parlophone CD @ 1986? [import] (made in japan)

I'm a bit puzzled.... The only date on the cd and sleeve is 1986... the sleeve has that aged look about it (nor any web addresses) as if it maybe from over 20 years ago, but the cd looks more recent, with clean sky-blue backing, and not the usual silver disc look of early cd's... it quotes the original sound recording date of 1986 and Made in Japan [ CDP 7 46269 2 ] This version does not include the later added material, 14. Spies Like Us 15. Once upon a Long Ago [Long Version]
So, is this an import made at a later date?
The music is okay.. imo from a first listen point of view, but the sound record quality is really quite good!

Chris,

If you find you like James Ingram's contribution as "The Dude" - you might also like this:

Another classic Steve!

Verdict on The Dude on SHM thread.

Now playing disc1 one of "Gold" Rod Stewart on SHMcd. All tracks from his first 4 solo albums when he was at his absolute peak. Incredible sound quality. Fabulous immediacy. Songs are pretty fine too!

My son (26 and a musician) was listening to the Dude with me and said how much he likes some of that smooth soul. I'll look out for the James Ingram.

You'll love the Dude!

Yes that's outrageous or as Marc Bolan once said It's A Rip off.

Still Martha and Mark will put it right eventually. Danesparc will be out on the 25th and they have at least 2 orders for autographed copies.

At least you can still get classic Chas n Dave albums at a reasonable price and I picked up this for a couple of £.

seems a bit dated though.

Fantastic music and fine performing too. But not so sure if these praga cd’s are really holding up to their credentials of SACD and DSD (direct stream digital). I hate to say this but maybe they sound slightly too compressed, the music a little distant despite it’s… loudness.
It maybe me just being tired… the ‘arpeggione’ is my nightcap before retiring to my bed… i'll play it again later today : )

I'm playing this again now, and can confirm i was too tired to listen in the early hours of this morning. The record quality of this disc has a certain earthiness but it is a good one...
The musicianship is superb, as is the composition of 'Arpeggione' written by Schubert in 1824 when he was 27.
Track 5 Allegro moderato a stunning demonstration of fine cello play, in many parts of this 12 minute movement, Michal Kanka's cello sounds so smooth i could mistake it for a saxophone... how can this be?... they hadn't been invented in 1824!
But reassuringly, when the cello gets more plucky that daft notion is gone. The following Adagio is darker but none the less, i find this play has a strong sense of rhythm and is all very uplifting despite it's minor key.

Got into this via a freebie Americana CD from Uncut magazine this month (which has some good diverse bands) - it's very good, chilled out West Coast CSN style...
