Arrived from HMV this morning...
First play and impression: i've overstepped my personal jazz-boundary with this...
... i'll put it away for a week (or two)... then play it again on an evening when my mood is different.

Sometimes the records i get just rest for weeks, months, in some cases for years.
I'm not an admirer of the WOW factor.

I've never bee able to give this man a lable.
And i don't play often his records.
But this one is really great and just take me back to probably the best years of my first 41 years.
(now i'm so terribly romantic)

Thanks for all the info. I have Tharaud's Chopin Preludes on order and in the meantime enjoy Gimse play those pieces:

Three very good discs of Tharaud which I highly recommend are his Bach, Rameau and Chopin's Waltzs.
What are the plans for a Sunday in Germany?
Regards,
Haim
Even though it was a nice day outside, I sat in listening to music. Beethoven Piano Trios from the Beethoven edition on vinyl (Kempff,Fournier,Szeryng) Op.1 (All), Brahms 4 with Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Solti), Brahms ballades Op.10 (Sokolov, Gilels)- Love this music, and then finished off with Brahms violin sonatas (Op.78,Op.100)(Zukerman,Barenboim)
I don't have any Naim discs
Cheers
Mark

What do you think? Am not particularly convinced on first listen, am trying to find the vinyl version (found) I have with Zvi Zeitlin (not Oistrakh as I originally and incorrectly remembered) as the soloist. I remember this being more coherent. Maybe my ears need reconditioning after another weekend at altitude.

Tpical American Tragedy - Anthony Da Costa. Heard a track on Bob Harris the other night - excellent stuff with a good sound quality, very Ryan Adams in flavour, mostly mellow acoustic and apparently he's only 17 years old, which is amazing given his voice and talent! one to watch...
Hadn't heard of him before so thanks for the heads up. I see he has 3 discs avaiable.
No me neither. sounds very good![]()
having had a chance to sit and absorb this, I think it's excellent - he's spookily like Ryan Adams at times with a side order of Steve Earle as well. A couple of the songs are a bit samey in tone but well worth the price of admission. I had a little trouble finding a copy at first but ordered it here:
http://www.fishrecords.co.uk
and received it the very next day - signed copy too!!

Do you keep them down in the cellar, maturing with the dusty wine bottles? : )

Huw - this is the first time I have heard either piece of music so cannot compare Hahn versus other performances. I liked the Sibelius, not so excited on the Schoenberg. I did not come away exhilirated like I have done on other Hahn recordings. I do think it needs another listen. Another holiday!

Hi Ewen,
Whats this Boz Scaggs disc like, I love his drowning sea of love track on the 'rock and roll soul revue' album. Is this a good album to buy first?
BTW, I have put in my bid - fingers crossed!

Don't give up on this album as it is a classic. I think you will find it exciting and quite melodic when you are in the right mood and very rewarding.

As recommended by Diccus. I probably need to give it another couple of listens to get the full impact

Peter, just to give my opinion - this is a beautifully recorded Scaggs disc - top quality sound. A mixture of some live and studio and a good intro to some of his tracks. He is a superb artist. His classic album is Silk Degrees from the 70's (Lido Shuffle) but my favourite was always the Some Change album.

Hi Adrian,
Many thanks. I seem to think that the Silk Degrees is "available" on mfsl.
I'll order these two, and look out for the silk degrees mfsl.
Many thanks!

It's Beck's Sea Change, a heart-breaking record.
The site I found the picture from states that it was the only album to get 5/5 from Rolling Stone the year it came out.
It's also the only cd I have that lights the hdcd display on my cd5x - it's produced by Nigel Godrich (of Radiohead fame amongst others) and sounds incredible. It's really atmospheric - a good one for making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck!
Definitely one of my favourites.
