'Most of all, you've got love technique'.
Stunning. I feel a late night coming on...

Tool's album 'Lateralus' is another HDCD release, although not the more recent '10,000 Days'.
'Lateralus' may not the easiest album to get into, I owned it for 18 months before I finally realised what it was about, interestingly the same time it took me to get into my first King Crimson album, who are a huge influence on Tool.
That said 'Lateralus' is definitely my favourite recording of the last ten years, probably alongside Red House Painters 'Old Ramon' (well recorded 1997, released 2001 due to legal disputes).
If you like the darker and louder side of prog rock, King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator, then Tool's 'Lateralus' is an album worth trying, and trying again, then leaving on the shelf for several months, and then trying again.
It is co-produced by the band and David Bottrill, who has produced/engineered King Crimson and David Sylvian among others.
A bit of a jump from Beck to Tool I must admit.

Even though it was a nice day outside, I sat in listening to music. Beethoven Piano Trios from the Beethoven edition on vinyl (Kempff,Fournier,Szeryng) Op.1 (All), Brahms 4 with Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Solti), Brahms ballades Op.10 (Sokolov, Gilels)- Love this music, and then finished off with Brahms violin sonatas (Op.78,Op.100)(Zukerman,Barenboim)
I don't have any Naim discs. Not even a sampler. What ones would you recommend.
Cheers
Mark
Mark,
If you go with only one, this is the choice:

Chris Anderson's piano playing and synergy with Charlie Haden are outstanding.
On the classical side, Havard Gimse is a very talented pianist. All three of his discs are very good but I prefer his Grieg: Folk Dances, songs.
John Holloway's A London Concert is recommended too.
World music wise, an excellent duo from Brazil (piano & guitar) is Espiritu.
Other good jazz is Hobgood's trios: State of the Union & Crazy World.
Regards,
Haim

I first heard her on the August Rush soundtrack. Most intriguing guitar since Michael Hedges and Steve Tibbets.

Mark - to add to Haim's recommendations on Naim CD's. I own a lot of them but the ones that I like best are
Charlie Haden - Private Collection - this is a superb CD and I am glad to see it got the rerelease it deserves. Has been some of my favourite jazz for years
Antonio Forcione - all his CD's are superb and beautifully recorded
Charlie Haden/Antonio Forcione - Heartplay - like Pat Metheny/Haden beyong the Missouri Sky. Very good and relaxing
Fred Simon - Remember the River is pretty good and I am sure he will tell you so as well
Nicolas Meier - I like his new one Silence Talks - just come out.
Cheers

Saw her last year at the Sydney Festival. She was stunning and captivating. Charming show. Amazing guitarist.
She has a new CD out called Dreaming of Revenge. This one is excellent as well

Winner of 2008 Grammy for best Traditional Folk Album from Band member Levon Helm. Very good listening indeed and recorded after his treatment for throat cancer. This one will reward repeated listening.
