Just spinning this old Dan. Makes you happy and singing along. What is it that so many artists and bands seem to loose over time?...

Terrible news - a great loss indeed.
Now playing:

Not too dissimilar from EST, oddly enough.

P.S. What to make of this sentence from the Guardian news article:
quote:Formed in 1993, E.S.T. was the first European group to be honoured on the cover of the prestigious US jazz magazine Down Beat, in 2006.
A damning comment on Down Beat's insularity, surely?

James,
are they vinyl or cds?
CDs I have to confess, Stuart - both CDs for £6.93 delivered, from Amazon. They are, however, expanded to encompass the full concerts, rather than the shortened selection to fit onto the vinyl.
For sound quality though, in due course I'll track down the vinyl too.
What great music. And great chemistry between artist and audience.
I'm really getting into Johnny Cash at the moment.

If you're really into Chant, try listening to some of the recordings from Solesmes, generally regarded as the principal exponents - it was Dom Prosper Gueranger OSB who revived Chant when it had become almost lost after the French and other European revolutions of the 18th-19th centuries.
The French Solesmes has a fluid and lyrical yet precise style. And there is definitely something of the French nasality in the tone. It is interesting to compare with this and other German-speaking communities, which because of the accents of the vernacular language spoken by these religious exhibit a much stronger 'attack'. eg 'qui' rendered as 'qvi'.
Probably rather obsessively I have quite a good collection of Chant, both LP and CD. You've given the game away elsewhere about your youthful age, so what I'm about to say is ancient history. But I was greatly influenced by Ben, the long-suffering dentist husband (played by Geoffrey Palmer) of Ria the mid-life crisis housewife in the BBC's sublime late'70s comedy series (I won't cheapen it by calling it a sitcom) 'Butterflies' by Carla Lane.
Ben used to listen to Chant after a hard day staring at teeth... Although this clip involves polyphonic music!
