Thanks Geoff, yes I have been steadily buying the Naim vinyl from my dealer. Just waiting for the Haden/Forcione one now which has been out of print for the last few weeks.

Thanks!

....Adrian it will be worth the wait.
Stefan was concerned that Mr Forcione would go all flashy and swamp the subtleties of Haden's work but he is restrained and thoughtfull himself here. A different side to him. though his more forward individual work is just as excellent in its own way.

Fripp - Exposure. With a different version of one of my favourite songs - Here Comes the Flood by Peter Gabriel. Gabriel provides the vocals

Hi Lontano,

What's it like? The Gabriel version I find spine tingling.

Steve,

This is one song I can listen to over and over and over again, so it is good to have another Gabriel version (with Fripp - in fact there are two on the disc, a remixed version as well)

These versions are very simple and effective. I read that Gabriel thought he had overdone the song on the Gabriel 1 album, so on the Fripp album it is him on vocals and acoustic piano with a little bit of Fripp/Eno atmospherics adding a delicate touch. I like it a lot and worth the price of the album for me. I need to listen more to the rest of the album as well. I think it has very good potential.

Cheers
Adrian

It's Beck's Sea Change, a heart-breaking record.

The site I found the picture from states that it was the only album to get 5/5 from Rolling Stone the year it came out.

It's also the only cd I have that lights the hdcd display on my cd5x - it's produced by Nigel Godrich (of Radiohead fame amongst others) and sounds incredible. It's really atmospheric - a good one for making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck!

Definitely one of my favourites.

Bought it today and just played. Enjoyed it a lot. Might check out some of their other stuff.

Cool - glad you like it.

In case you don't know Beck at all, don't expect his other albums to sound like Sea Change. The only other that's even close is Mutations, but I don't play it much, apart from the gorgeous 'Nobody's Fault But My Own'. Probably worth it for this song alone. (Edit - I've just put it on, it's another hdcd.)

The definitive Beck album is this one - just got a 10th anniversary rerelease with about 20 extra tracks. Very, erm... eclectic.

If you want a mix of folk/country/funk/hip hop/electro/disco/breakbeat/pop/soul/funk/rock all in one record, get this!

I visited the record library this morning, and like the sound of this very much:

Works for Viola and Orchestra by Bartok, Eotvos and Kurtag. Kim Kashkashian is the soloist.

Sometimes i wonder how many musicians a record like this did put its influence on.
When i was 15 i spent some time thinking about present and i did not know i was thinking about future.
The power of the Floyds?

An album inspired by Dusty Springfield. Superb recording.
