Mozart's Rondo in D for Piano and Orchestra in the magically enthralling performance with his own Chamber Orchestra [he directs from the keyboard] by Edwin Fischer in this perfect 1937 HMV Berlin recording, transfered without any 78 noise by Apian APR Records.

I haven't burned out on Neil Young yet. What amazes me after all these years is that...whether confused, abstracted, alienated or racked with self doubt,.. you are never in doubt that Young means every word he sings. Sometimes, as in "Cowgirl in the Sand", the meaning is all but incomprehensible.. Young was the great poet of the 70's, a decade for whom sadness and alienated melancholy were the norm. It was all so earnest and confusing. Well,... I was there, I remember,...
" He shot four men in a cocaine deal
and left them lying in an open field...
Full of old cars with bullet holes in the mirrors
Please take my advice...
Please take my advice...
Please take my advice !
Open up the tired eyes...."

Rachel Taylor Brown "Half Hours with the Lower Creatures"
I'm really taken with this CD. I guess I have Diccus62 to thank, at least indirectly, as I first heard her on a podcast from NPR's "All Songs Considered". The CD isn't released in the UK, but I was so impressed I bought one from a private Amazon seller in the US - cost just $1 (plus $6.50 p+p!) A bargain!
She's been described as Regina Spektor meets The Beatles "White Album" which isn't too far off the mark. Reading her biography she is also probably what my old librarian friend from Wolverton would have called "a bit of a sort"!
She does of course have a myspace page if you want to check her out.
