I'm really taken with this CD. I guess I have Diccus62 to thank, at least indirectly, as I first heard her on a podcast from NPR's "All Songs Considered". The CD isn't released in the UK, but I was so impressed I bought one from a private Amazon seller in the US - cost just $1 (plus $6.50 p+p!) A bargain!

She's been described as Regina Spektor meets The Beatles "White Album" which isn't too far off the mark. Reading her biography she is also probably what my old librarian friend from Wolverton would have called "a bit of a sort"!

She does of course have a myspace page if you want to check her out.

Steeve,

yeah I still listen to nprs 'all songs considered' and get some great tips for new music. Some of it I don't get some i find ordinary but some things like Bon Iver and The Bowerbirds hit the nail on the head for me. I'll have to have a listen to RTB, the name doesn't ring a bell.

............... and Steve you can call me by my first name if you want. Diccus Winker

I like this one

One of the more enjoyable "white boy indie guitar bands" of late I think

And so, I finally get to hear:

Although I really like the first track, I'm struggling to engage with most of the rest of the album - any ideas?

Pick of the ACT bunch so far is this:

Recommended to all you European piano trio lovers.

Moving on to Chris Beier's protege:

Another excellent CD from this talented trio. I think I need to get their first album!

Larry - I am trying them out. Some of it I like a lot. The death vocals (I think that's what they call them) I am getting used to at this stage. I would love it if they did a whole CD of the tuneful, normal vocal stuff - that would be stunning.

Cheers

Adrian,

I recently purchased Damnation

Some details from swhq influenced me somewhat and certainly cheap enough on amazon at the moment.
The seventh album by the Swedish band Opeth was recorded simultaneously with the metal album Deliverance (see below), but is a completely mellow album which focuses on the gentle melodic side of the band. Includes contributions from SW as producer and guest performer. Damnation also features one track co-written by SW "Death Whispered a Lullaby".

Thanks Denis - I will give it a try. I also have Blackwater Park as well but again a bit too much of the heavy vocal.
