How's your Giuffre odyssey going, Stefan? Do you have any recommendations for me?!

Clearly, the ECM double CD is a winner by miles. But, I like collecting his recordings. quite versatile, and just right between free and mainstream, for my taste. great musician.

a collection (that I used in todays memorable speaker audition at Dynavox) including

Accordian Tribe
Bebo & Cigala
Bob Brozman
Chris Jones
Lynni Treekrem
Maria Del Mar Bonet
Michel Godard
Orgeon
Rabih Abou-Khalil
Canto de la Vida
Silvana Deluigi
Toumani Diabeté

Almost like my personal "favorites" collection...

Hi Oliver,
I don't remember the soundtrack that well, but this is probably my favourite film of all time. Nothing has ever moved me so much, or made me think about the death sentence in such a way. Very very moving. Thanks for the heads up, it's now on order!

Take That - Beautiful World. This is pretty cool. Gary Barlow writes some good stuff. Yeah I know, shoot me down.

Ha!!! Ha!!!! I should hope so to. But it is probably one of his weaker albums. Though still good.

Philip Jeayes

A sort of English Jacques Brell - wonderful.

You can hear all songs on his web site here and it has all the lyrics too - first class site from a first rate artist.

They say the finest things in life
Are for the rich and well to do
But still poor as I am
I take one look at Madame
And I know it isn't true
For all she sees in painting
Is the daubs of losers at a loss
For her artistic compulsion
Stops at two coats of emulsion
And the skirting board in gloss

And me I do the cleaning
Around her priceless art but still
When I talk of Picasso
She talks of Dulux vinyl

The soundtrack is very much in tune with the film. Outstanding from beginning to end and the recording / sound quality is fantastic.

"This live release by Fred Hersch is a rare creature: a solo piano recital that is never at a loss for lyrical and melodic ideas. The solo format exposes all of the musician’s habits, pet themes and favored tones to our virgin ears without the benefit of the commanding physical pulse of a rhythm section. It’s just Hersch and his thoughts. Thankfully, he’s a smart and generous guy, tackling standards and original compositions with equal subtlety and invention."

Highly recommended by me too.
