Hi Ewen,

Bob Seger is one of of my dads favourite artists. Can you recommend a few albums as i would like to treat him to a few CD's. He gave me a few un-playable LP's but i wasn't going to risk it!

Rotf,
It sounds great through the new system.
The big black monitors are something else.

Do you like the Studio 1s? Very good speakers IMHO perhaps a little slower than Naim speakers, but the bass is ace - you need something like a Tresham to drive them Big Grin

BTW Chas n Dave sound fantastic through them.

If I may butt in...your dad had great taste! "Night Moves" is a classic. I'd also recommend "Live Bullet" and the later live album "Nine Tonight". There are also two volumes of "Greatest Hits" which cover the essential Bob Seger pretty well.

Excellent tonal qualities on that harpsichord, especially down the bass end, it‘s so much easier to enjoy when they put the microphones in all the right places : )

Keano don't totally agree with Chris. Think Night Moves and Stranger in Town are essential. In the case of Night Moves you have to get a copy of the DCC excellent sounding. For Stranger in Town the remaster will do.

The Live Bullets album which is a great live album (but I don't listen to it much these days)is where it really started going big for Seger. If you plan to buy that, do not I repeat do not buy the current remaster. It is awful, one of the worst I have heard, get an original disc.

This is where I differ from Chris in so much as I have never liked Nine Tonight.

The Distance and Against The Wind are also not bad albums.

Of the earlier albums I like Beautiful Loser, Mongrel, Seven and Back in '72 (which has never been released on cd). I have a cd copy of it that I bought off a seller on eBay in the States. All they did was neeedledrop the vinyl. I had them all on vinyl but never got around to replacing them which to be honest I probably won't do anyway.

I seriously can't recommend any of his later discs. They do have some excellent trax on them but overall never liked them.

As Chris mentioned you could also buy the Gt Hits for an overall picture of what Bob was about. But certainly you have to pick up Night and Stranger.

Should still have my copy of the original Back in '72 album in the house as I don't think I gave it away with the rest of my vinyl.

Had tickets to go and see him in concert once but he cancelled his UK tour. Would have love to have seen him

Can sound best with a vinyl source such as Rega Planar 2 with S-Shaped arm and, say a Linn K9 cartridge - ideally for spinning up some nice tranquil sounds like Deep Purple In Rock.
