Vittorio Ghielmi plays; treble viol / tenor viol / lyra viol / bass voil, in reciting the compositions of William Corkine, Daniel Farrant, Tobias Hume, Simon Ives, John Jenkins, Thomas Mace, Joseph Sherlie, William Young and Mr Anonymous.
Quite a good bunch of viol composers and samples of their work excellently represented in many different moods and styles. This all follows though very nicely as an album in itself.
If you don’t have a particular fondness for the rasping viol sound this would be best avoided, but over-wise this is a very enjoyable way to hear 53 minutes of superb emotive viol play : )

Borrowed from a friend.
... and your evaluation is?![]()
Not bad Oliver but don't know if I would rush out and buy the disc for my own collection. Maybe I need a few listens.
Do you have any of their discs and if so which would you recommend I listen to?
I see from reviews that someone from a major mag called them AC/DC with Patsy Cline as their singer. Definitely wouldn't say that.

Tiger Okoshi - Color of Soil
Music inspired by the 1995 Kobe earthquake in Japan.
Recorded live directly to two tracks. In addition to Tiger Okoshi's trumpet we have Kennt Barron on piano, Jay Anderson on bass, Mino Cielu on percussion and Hank Roberts on cello.

Eric Delaney Band - Best Of.
This is superb for anyone who likes big bands and good drumming, he is also very good on tymps.
These transfers are from the Pye label 1956-1968, most in mono.
So enjoy one of Englands best drummers for the princely sum of £3.99

Actually never heard of them - that's why I was so curious.

Nigel,
as you can imagine, not exactly easy listening. 'Brave Old World' is performing these songs that are drawn from rare Jewish music created between 1940-1944 in the Nazi ghetto of Lodz. The songs were collected from survivors in Israel and the US. It is a great homage to the Lodz ghetto composers and songwriters as well as all the survivors.
Cheers ... Oliver
