If you like Silk Degrees you have to get Slow Dancer which for me is when he really started making truly great albums.

I wouldn't say that Moments, My Time and and Band are essential but in their own right they are good albums.

His first solo on Atlantic is generally considered to be a classic because of Loan Me A Dime and it had the Muscle Shoals Rhythm section all over it as well as Duane Allman.

By the way there is a solo album he recorded ion Sweden in the mid to late 60's avoid that like the bubonic plague it is terrible.

also meant to say that I am looking foward to his NEW SOLO album due out on 28th Oct called Speak Low. Mind you it is another of the Beautiful Ballads Jazz style jazz albums which took me a while to get into te last time.

Jeff try and track down his first album you won't regret it. You know where I am if you want a copy.

Long a holy grail among soundtrack aficionados, this lavishly packaged/annotated release has been prepared from recently discovered master tapes with a clarity and presence that gives the late Giovanni's haunting music the gratifying showcase it's so long deserved. --Jerry McCulley

...and after hearing the appallingly grubby mono soundtrack disc that comes with the "3 disc collector's edition DVD", i would say that most tracks on this "Original Soundtrack Album" have been remastered very well indeed!

I bet ROTF would appreciate this style of folk music! : )

Mamas and Papas "Gold" on SHM cd. Sounds excellent. Can't believe these are 40+ year old recordings.

Thanks. I have ordered the new vinyl release of his 1969 debut. I did not like the Beautiful Ballads album at all. Don't know why but I thought he did not need to do a standards album - so many of them around. I'll try the new one and hope that I react better to it this time.

Cheers
