What a coincidence - I was just listening to this on the drive home from work in Dover (just 6 hours this time!) and thinking it doesn't get posted very often! An excellent album - moody, atmospheric and great production.

in reverse order 4 - 1.
Because I can.
Jono
Hi Jono,
What exactly is this? Must be one of the few not in my Joy Division/New Order Collection.

Hey MilesSmiles, the Jobim/Sinatra is one of my dad's twenty or more Sinatra records! It's really mellow, isn't it? Frank sounds like he was lying down when he recorded his vocals.
I don't really like Frank much, but I saw In the Wee Small Hours on cd yesterday and nearly bought it (it seemed strange as my dad's is on two 10" vinyl - two eps, if I remember right?).
I looked for the Jobim as well, but no luck. It's a cool record.

Nikolai Kapustin (b 1937)- Marc Andre Hamelin, piano.
Two sets of Etudes, one Variations, a Suite, a Bagatelle, a Piano Sonata and a Sonatina.
Works composed between 1984 and 2000, all of them with a flavor of jazz piano.
Highly recommended.

The Dowland Project 2008
John Potter, tenor
Milos Valent, violin, viola
John Surman, sax, bass clarinet, recorders
Stephen Stubbs, baroque guitar
All three ECM discs of the project are very good.

Chief Chirpa,
my dad got me into Frank early on, but only now do I fully appricate his records. If you can get one of the DCCs with the Rat Pack, they make for very entertaining listening. I was lucky enough to see 'Ole Blue Eyes' live once. Even in his 80s he was a great entertainer.
Cheers ... Oliver
