Argh... too late to recall my stupid post. (Adam, if you read this, feel free to delete my earlier post, and just leave this corrected one)

Two of the Trio Obscur guys indeed ARE from Quadro Nuevo...

Reading the CD info helps. Some people...

Ah, missed your question, by 10 minutes...

AFAIK, they are not at all related. The "trio obscur" approach (to Tango) is a more "intellectual" one. Also, they really celebrate their instruments more than Quadro Noevo does. Great sax lines, fully earthed, here, where Quadro Nuevo swings & sings more. Both valid approaches, but - different. Try to listen to samples...

Are these the guys from Quadro Nuevo? Is it similar? Do I need to get over to jpc?

Glad to help, and - yes - this is one of my most treasured CD's !

Full of jealousy that you had the chance to see Rava / Bollani. Still trying to get into a Bollani concert !

cheers
Stefan

In that case, I better not tell you how good they were! Winker Seriously - keep trying, it will be worth it in the end.

Cheers

Bollani for me is the most inventive, contemporary, intelligent, funny, versatile and innovative piano player of our time. Smat Smat, Gleda, I visionary, just to name three CDs of very high standards. A man that will stay. Followed maybe by Michael Wollny ? Yes, maybe...

My one initial reservation about last night was that maybe Bollani was a little too flashy - but there was plenty of heart and soul too, and by the end of the evening I was completely won over. A nice contrast between Bollani's youthful exuberance, and Rava, the "old lion". There was great rapport between the two, and much "horsing around", which was hilarious, rather than cringe-making. Have you heard the latest Wollny Trio CD?:

It's good enough to make me want to buy the other two.

Now that's a box!! I would be extremely hard pressed to narrow my collection down but that box would certainly be in my top 3 desert island choices - perfect Friday night listening!

Not yet... Also, they were playing in the neighbourhood, the other day, and I did not go (new job, 80 hours a week, bla, bla...). But I have seen them before and him also (with Sauer. A phantastic duo !!), so it was only half bad.

Will get the CD...

cheers
Stefan

.....Mebbe's "The Modern Dance" is their strongest album but as a "toe dipper" into the strange world of Ubu this is perfect.

Perfect PRAT on my part this afternoon, able to squeeze a 5K just before the rain arrived.
