David Oistrakh playing Bruch and Hindemith - have both on vinyl and ordinary CD, but the XRCD that I picked up today is outstanding. Great music.

Japanese bubble pop at its best!
Kuma,
Not listening to a lot of music lately, or just tired of posting?

Haim,
I got a nasty flu and was down for a long time.
I haven't even visited a record shop for a while but I've ordered some music from HMV recently.

Kuma,
I hope that you will get rid of the cold real soon (put it in fast forward).
Same here, not much new stuff and no live music for the last three months. I am trying to compesate though with some daily duets with our bird.
Regards.

Beethoven's opera "Fidelio," for the first time in a good two years. I was lucky to be given the "loan" of Klemperer's not only estimable live BBC recording from his performances and production run at Covent Garden in 1961, which was a great year for him. He reconquered the opera house after a series of terrible illnesses and misfortunes from 1957 onwards, and seems to have come back better than ever.
Truly a magnificent achievement. It makes many of the acclaimed performances sound rather ... shall we say ... somewhat lacking in drive and subtlety!
I shall order these even if it means I may starve imminently! Carpe Diem and all that!
A dear old friend of mine was first double bass in the ROHCG orchestra, and he clearly remembered these performances as being outstanding in his whole time at the house, between 1955 and the early eighties! He also told me how difficult the rehearsals were. But he said somehow the performances came out of rehearsals that seemed to suggest some sort of wreck must be the inevitable result. Klemperer started out very unpopular with the orchestra, and gained a grudging respect, followed by even something close to affection. That can happen. Certainly the band play like angels here! The cast are peerless for that time, and probably not yet eclipsed. The Chorus, firm and steady toned [unlike the then Vienna State Opera Chorus], which is a blessing in this music.

More ear candy jap-pop.

Got a ton of records from Japan.
Haim,
Thanks for your kind words.
I am slowly recovering but not running in full speed.
Today was just a lazy Sunday and I didn't do a darn thing! ( except listening to some tunes )
My mate got it right after I did and now some of my friends seem to be getting the same *bug*.
Not pleasant.
