1. Animals
2. Wish You Were Here
3. Dark Side/Wall
Don't like the early albums so much. I think they got good from Atom onwards (I know one member who will definitely disagree).

I think they were still call The Pink Floyd Sound when they recorded Lucy Leave, but they could have still been the Screaming Abdabs.

It has to be Meddle, and the outstanding track is Echoes.
And for those who get a big kick out of this one track may I recommend David Gilmour - Live in Gdansk, where this track is played in its entirety, also featuring Rick Wright on keyboards. I believe that this was the last time he played on stage and if so is a very fitting tribute to the substantial contribution he made to PF's sound.
Gilmour's guitar positively shimmers and there are moments when I play this track that I think it is even better than the original studio version.

What about Ummagumma (Careful with that axe, Eugene) and More (Nile Song, Cymbaline, Green is the colour)?

Do you really like those albums or you just having a laughquote:Originally posted by BigH47:

Always thought DG did a good job in Syd's backing band, but after the Wall - what was the point. DG greatest moment was as producer on The Madcap Laughs - surely one of the greatest albums ever.
Just can't get on with DG's solo stuff - seems a bit X-Factor to me.

Yes I do like those albums.

I want to tell you a story
'Bout a little man if I can.
A gnome named Grimble Gromble.
And little gnomes stay in their homes,
Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine.
He wore a scarlet tunic,
A blue-green hood, it looked quite good.
He had a big adventure
Amidst the grass, fresh air at last.
Wining, dining, biding his time...
And then one day...
Hooray, another way for gnomes to say
Ooh my...
You have to read the bits between the bits; it's a perfect description of me and my life captured in a few hypnotic magical lines.
Compare with
Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun
Hardly Gilbert and Sullivan - nothing rhymes.
For me DG is a nice guy trying too hard; I prefer Syd's natural eccentric guitar playing too: he played like no other. The opening riff to [i[Interstellar Overdrive is magical.
Of Syd's backing band my favourite elpee is Atom Heart Mother and I'm fond of Obscured by Clouds - like quite a lot RW's tunes.

I am a massive Syd fan as well.
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
Wish You Were Here
Dark Side Of The Moon (Got to be just for Brain Damage!!)
All Syd's solo stuff is great as well.

I know it's a Waters solo album in all but name, but I think The Final Cut is an overlooked masterpiece.

Interesting replies. I don't really think Pink Floyd ever made a bad album (Although they did come close with 'The Final Cut'). I really like 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' although I feel that it was a commercial mistake to omit 'See Emily Play' and 'Arnold Layne' from the album. Around the time of 'The Wall' it just got too pompus. The guitar solo on 'Comfortably Numb' doesn't do it for me like it does for some people. I didn't much care for 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' but what 'The Division Bell' lacks in song quality it makes up for in production.
I first saw Pink Floyd back in the 1960s when I was 12 years old. Syd was still in the band and the show was quite an experience. I saw them several times in London when I was a teenager and went to the Hyde Park Concert that featured a full performance of 'Atom Heart Mother'. I managed to get hold of some complimentary tickets for the 'Pulse' tour and while the technology provided a great spectacle I still preferred the days when the band made mistakes in concert and when Roger Waters banged on a microphone when they performed 'Heart Beat Pig Beat'

This is also one of my favourites. Roger Waters is a genius IMO.
I like David Gilmour but his solo effort 'On An Island' doesn't hit the mark for me.

I can't really put them in order of preference, but The Wall, The Final Cut, Echos, Animals, WYWH, Piper at the Gates of Dawn are all in there.
Although I still love DSOTM i've just listened to it a bit too much. Perhaps I'll leave it in the rack for a year or two then rediscover it.

I first heard this on Radcliffe and Maconie's Dave Gilmour night when they played it all the way through. It is a fabulous version.

I think it sounds like what it is , a collection of Wall leftovers.

In no particula order:
Meddle
Pulse
MLOR
Division Bell
Obscured By Clouds
DSOTM
Can't get on with Syd Barrat's solo twee nonsense although early PF is OK.
Gilmour, Waters, Wright & Mason are all excellent musicians but DG is a guitarist par excellence.
