'Pulse' was the first Pink Floyd album that I bought and it is still my favourite. I have the cheesy original version with the battery in it and the blinking LED. Big Grin

News just in, Deano's slipping in another favorite.

You mean your LED is still blinking ... I'm impressed.

When the battery expired on my copy I managed to replace it. It was a hell of a job and when the second battery expired I just couldn't be bothered. Nice album though.

Ummagumma gets a bad press, not least from the Floyd themselves, but I think it's absolutely terrific, especially the live album, which is one of the best things they ever did. The much-maligned studio album has its moments too, despite the whiff of what biographer Rick Saunders called "a band trying to be avant-garde in their Sunday best." Very much in the spirit of its time, but manages to sound optimistic and not a little brave,

All the post-Waters albums are rubbish, and Momentary Lapse and Delicate Sound of Thunder are so shocking they should be deleted - they are a stain on the Floyd's catalogue.

I yield to no-one in my admiration for Gilmour as a guitar player and singer, but well... Dave, you shouldn't have bothered.

This is of course in your not so humble opinion , which you have just demonstrated as being worthless.

Sez who? I've got Big Rog on my side, Big Grin and even Dave admits the Lapse is, er, "transitional".

I mean, those post-Waters records are OK if you're a)deaf; or b)into seriously dated 1980s mullets-and-MIDI muzak with appallingly banal lyrics. Don't you agree?

Having had 'The Wall' for many years and bought the 30th Anniversary vinyl when it came out I then ventured into some of their other albums.

I recently got WYWH and Meddle and think the are better than the later stuff I already had.

Just my opinion...

Pulse is my favourite.

This was the album that got me into the Floyd about 5 years ago; of all the albums this one gets played the most.

After Syd left, PF became pompous and unlistenable.

Ah; that explains their complete lack of success since the late 60s. Did they actually publish anything afterwards?

( rolls eyes, mutters, wanders off )

In no particular order:

DSOTM
Meddle
WYWY - the first side is near perfection.

Debatable but they were pretty crap when he was in the band.

I didn't grow up with all of them so I have no idea about Syd, I saw a film of them in concert ina greek amphitheater, it was noisy anxiety psychodelic to me. Had a roommate in college play me Eugene and laughed as my face changed. He was a smoker dopper and I wasn't. But I loved the Furry Little Creatures Grooving to a Pict. Last year at Ojai festival a Canadian percussion group did something similar with a mass of toys on a table picking them up and making noises, it was very funny, I'd like to hear that song again.

I liked Meddle, and the best thing on is My dog Shamus, very funny, gives me giggles every time thinking how we as kids would howl and our boxer would get serious and quiver her chin to join in. Fits of laughter and she'd realize it was a fun and games and wag her tail.

I have Echoes and Dark Side, don't care to have the rest tho I'd like to hear them one at a time if a local would bring them over. The Wall was wonderful but I just don't need to hear all that angst over and over. My life is about being positive, I don't want to reinforce negative thoughts. Darkside isn't as much about the words for me as for what they did in the studio. Very trippy, great when you have a buzz on or preoccupied with making out.

For me it has to be Meddle. This was the very first Floyd album I heard, circa 1972, on a totally crap stereo that was marginally better than my mother's Dansette 'cos it had 2 speakers (oh what a novelty). But Echoes just blew me away. Has remained my PF preference ever since. Also love Atom Heart Mother and DSOTM.

Slightly OT, but its near certain ( AFAICT ) that Rog will be touring The Wall later this year.

Glad to see so many put 'Animals' in their list, definitely my favourite.

1.Animals
2.Wish You Were Here
3=Dark Side of the Moon
3=Meddle
5.Live at Pompei (DVD/film - original edit)

Live/unofficial.
BBC broadcast of the Earls Court Show in 1974 (with the Echoes encore), plus the audience sourced the early versions of some of the 'Animals' tracks on the full recording.

I also love David Gilmour's first solo album.

I do not like 'The Wall', just as I do not like Genesis 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway', for me the lyricist/vocalist writes a long story and forces the music into nothing more than a backing for it. They both have a couple of good tracks, where the band push through , specifically on 'The Wall' where Gilmour co-writes the tracks, but as albums they do nothing for me.

Syd's genius is best filtered through what followed.

Live version of Saucerful of Secrets on Ummagumma gets me singing.

Ah, the 70-77 peak.

I harbour an irrational fondness for atom heart mother, even if the main theme of the title song would suit a dated spaghetti western.

Wish you were here would be a clear winner were it not for B of pesky meddle (yet A is weak).

The super dark side is let down by cash, and animals et al are super too, but wish you were here, were here steal this show.

I'd tear down the wall, and grab a few bricks.

The final cut is a far more cohesive, sensitive whinge than the wall.

Post cut is cut.

Sorry to disappoint you, I gave up after replacing the damn battery a couple of times.
