Naim new series amplification and B&W speakers
Posted by: Tuan on 07 February 2004
It seems to me that the new Naim amplification works very well with B&W speakers. I use the NAP300 to power the B&W Matrix 805V with great success. Open sound, fast and great rhythm. There is no substitute for clean power. Just wonder how would it be if I purchase the NAP500 instead of the NAP300?

I have a friend with the 805's and a giant ML boat anchor. Don't know if he wants to hear what my 102/Hi/NAPSC/250 would do with them...

Tuan,Tuan,Tuan........so you have the car, now get some tires....805 got to go, no sence in having the horse power if all you're going to do is spin the wheels.
If you started now and with James help you could have some great home built speakers done by the summer......

I don't think so. My loudspeakers don't come with specifications, or glossy brochures. Tuan wouldn't know what he'd be getting into.

hahaha. James . I let you get away this time. I come from an engineering background so the system specifications are the start of the component selection (first screening) to match with my requirements. However, for final purchase, it is the field tests that prove the component works as specified. Same with HiFi, I like to look at glossy brochures (part of the amusements), check out the specs then call for a home demo. In this so called HiFi adventure, I like to take my time (just got CDX2/XPS2/NAP300 within few months). So far things that impress me the most is the dynamics of the NAP300 when driving my B&W805 (they are good speakers and I do enjoy the sound). For me (spending most of the time listening to classical music)system dynamic is important and I now have it with the NAP300. Now I am afraid that changing to new speakers (and probably with more demanding loads) like Wilson Benesch ACT, Revel Ultima Germ, Neat Ultimatum (MFS) or JMLabs model Diva this system dynamic may get reduced... I hope that the NAP300 can maintain the power when driving the above mentioned speakers.

Tuan,
My dealer recons that a 500 driving 805signatures is a fantastic pairing and will produce a sound big enough for most rooms. I had a shot of them for a while and they did sound fantastic with a 500. However, going further up the B&W tree something seems to happen with the timing IMHO. If you have 805's try the signature models they are quite an improvement, if not a 500 will drive your speakers exquisitly well.

If you don't think so just up plug the speaker wire from your speakers and touch you tongue with the end of the wire...........with the amp on of course.
