Yo La Tengo?

I read a review of their new album in the Observer at the weekend - they sound really interesting. Can anyone recommend them?

YMMV of course, but I like them. Lo Fi guitar pop / noise. Think of Sonic Youth’s warmer, more cuddly cousins. They do everything from Beach Boy’s covers to VU sound-a-like stuff (I think they even played the Velvets in a film, on Andy Warhol?)

Absolutely. One of the most consistent and consistently improving "indie" bands of the last few decades.
Best Starting points of a near twenty year career: President Yo La Tengo - combo of feedback drenched thrash and lighter folk-rock.
Painful - more guitar experimentalism with a My Bloody Valentine feel, ie feedback as ambient dreamscape.
I Can Hear The Heart Beating as One - more variation than Painless but the standard combo of catchy alterna-pop songs and droney instrumentals.
And Then Nothing Turned itself Inside Out - probably my favourite (depends on mood) this sees Yo La Tengo stretching out and trying other song styles as well as their own. some songs have almost a Tindersticks feel whilst others veer on alt.country. Possibly the best late-night album of 2000.
Try any of these and you won't be disappointed. Didn't know about the new one, will now look out for it!

Great, great band. From Hoboken, NJ, built around the duo of Ira Kaplan - guitar/vocals/songwriting and Georgia Hubley (drums/vocals/songwriting).
They ave made countless albums and singles, too many to list here. My particular favourite of all their albums was "President Yo La Tengo" from 1989 - showcased both their folky side and their SY/VU feedback side.
Saw the at the Garage in Highbury about 14 years ago, supported by (if memory serves) Nick "The Bevis Frond" Saloman. They were awesome.
If you want a more detailed list of recomendations, I can supply when I get home.
