Keven Keegan back at Newcastle

Posted by: antony d on 16 January 2008

Well who would of thought it the prodigal son returns to Newcastle - I don't follow football that closely (wrong shape ball) but this must be good news for the fan's - lets hope the management give him the time he needs - next move could be Allan Shearer as 2nd??

i agree - good luck boys -you will need it!

Poor old Newcastle. He hardly made a success of his jobs in the past, I wonder why he should do any better now.
The Magpies deserve better.

Never a good idea to go back.

Still, all the 4-3s will be fun to watch!

"He's a terrific personality, a man of the people. He's been working very very hard at his Clown Circus in Glasgow - he won't have to be running round the track to get himself fit, but he'll have to swap them great big cloddy shoes for Footy boots. He'll be ready to slot in straight away with body and mind."
Lawrie McMenemy , who managed Keegan as a player at Southampton and was the worst Sunderland manager on record Big Grin

Diccus,

Sorry for the delay, as you would expect, I have been at the match.

What had previously been a match for die-hard fans only, suddenly became the hottest ticket in town.

What I do know about the Keegan appointment is that my phone did not stop ringing from the moment the news broke. The town was awash with fans, and they all had a smile on their face, and that was before the game.

Even the usual grandstanding from "Look at me" Uriah Rennie, could not overshadow the game, despite having ten men for 2/3 of the game.

There were also some nasty scenes before the match as a result of the behaviour of some of the Stoke fans who really have not moved on from the 70's let alone the 80's or 90's.

Is it the right move to appoint Keegan? Who knows. The fact is he has popular backing from the fans and the owner, he is older and wiser, and I would love it if........

Special K is back

Regards

When Keegan was coming to the end of his playing career ITV did a documentary about the great man. Revealing a ludicrously overinflated sense of ambition he pontificated about hoping to go into politics and one day to be Prime Minister. He would then sort out schools because, and I quote,
"schools never done nothing for me."

You couldn't make it up!

Maybe if he gets good back room staff or Alan Shearer, just maybe...........................

Enjoy yourself mate but remember the Ramones song KK took my baby away or something like it.

KK for Prime Minister

Good to see smiles on Tyneside.

Maybe the chanting will start 'Ego, Ego,ego'. Sorry mate can't help meself. Winker

Sorry Nic, agree about Rennie but that attempt to amputate the guys leg deserved a straight red. There should have been one earlier for Stoke though.

I agree with that - if the Stoke player had been sent off (Eustace) then Emrie would not have tried to exact his revenge; mind you I get really frustrated when an Ipswich player get sent off when he made a stupid tackle or retaliated, I'm sure Nic feels the same about Emrie: why can't players just learn to win the ball.

I'm much sooner see my player dispossess the opponent, play a quick one-two, drive past the opposition defence and lay on the winning goal Smile

Under KK - I think that'll be the philosophy.

Steve/ROFT,

When I wrote the comments it was without having had the benefit of television replay, purely my view from the terrace. Having now seen it, it was a rash challenge, with a nasty rake down the shin, but not in the same league as some of the two footed leg breakers than have been seen recently.

Emre is inclined to loose it when he is wound up, and was stupid to retaliate. The challenge on him however went completely unpunished, so the jump to a straight red seemed to be typical Rennie. He has a bit of history with Newcastle, and to my mind is still not fit to ref at Premiership level.

Roll on Saturday, and a proper welcome for "Wor Kev"

The press should be paying Keegan's wages given the amount of copy he has given them over the last week.

Liked his style at the press conference earlier today. It was a bit like finding and putting on your favourite pair of comfortable shoes that you thought you had lost.

Sitting back in anticipation of an interesting ride, starting tomorrow at the game against Bolton.

YES, sky have had a field day with the newcastle job.....just hope they let kev get on with it now as its becoming very tiresome.
what about other sporting issues......like the new deal that lewis hamilton has just landed to stay at mclaren, there was hardly any coverage of that!!

Sounded grim Nic, very early days and he has barely had time to get his trackies on. Do you think it will give him some food for thought?
Posted on: 19 January 2008 by nicnaim
Diccus,

Not as grim as watching a nil nil under Sam!

Lots of first team members missing through suspension, injury, African Nations Cup, Bail conditions etc. Not a single first team player on the bench.

It will certainly strengthen Keegan's hand with regards to requesting transfer money for new players.

Still a party atmosphere today, and no complaints from the crowd. Keegan will get a longer honeymoon period than any manager in living history.

seems a bit unfair doesnt it - just because someones held in higher regard than someone else that they are given more time to settle in and gel the team!
just a thought, scotty

Scotty,

Having a manager who actually talks to the BBC, means the fans can hear what he has to say. Big Sam did little to communicate with non-Sky subscribing fans, and did himself no favours is this regard.

Ditto 'Arry and Fergie - and all three because of allegations on Panorama linking them or their relatives to 'bung' taking.

Was it any better today Nic, obviously up against quality opposition and heard they tried to play to feet rather than head.

Woodgate should make a difference.

Do you think Big Al will turn up still in a back room way?

Woodgate's not going, Diccus. Maybe they should put in a bid for Alan Hansen instead - they seem to like the Match of the Day staff!
