Keven Keegan back at Newcastle

Well who would of thought it the prodigal son returns to Newcastle - I don't follow football that closely (wrong shape ball) but this must be good news for the fan's - lets hope the management give him the time he needs - next move could be Allan Shearer as 2nd??

Gentlemen,
Having been away skiing with the family over half term, I was fortunate to not to witness the destruction at the hands of manure first hand. The texts however were coming in thick and fast, but I did not let it spoil my holiday.
Diccus, still working on getting you a ticket for the relegation six pointer, strangely it seems a popular gig! A guaranteed sell out for two teams going nowhere!
Regards
Nic

Hope you enjoyed the skiing, thought you were quiet on here
Two teams going nowhere - they are definitely going somewhere, tho not quite sure where
Take it steady

Looks like they are getting better. A shame they didn't get the draw yesterday it might have been the start of something and instilled a bit of confidence in the team.

Diccus,
I am at a wedding in Manchester on Friday so it seemed sensible to pop over to Liverpool on Saturday with the wife. Just call me as sucker for punishment!

Sounds like they kept Liverpool out for most of the first half and then.......................... oh dear the Torres and Gerrard show took off. With the luxury of a 3 goal lead they substituted T & G. It ain't getting any better
Personally think Newcastle fans deserve more than the Keegan Circus............ Did I really say that

Unfortunately the whole situation was entirely predictable. I really feel for the Toon fans, but there is a real danger they will be relegated as they are now in freefall. They are not just losing they are being walloped in every game.
They really should have kept Sam until the end of the season as they would have been safe. If they then still did not like his style they could have got someone more to their liking in the summer.
Keegan never was a great coach - he just got away with it in the nineties because the quality of premiership teams' tactics was much poorer then. He was completely found out at international level. I think he thought he could just walk in and carry on where he left off.
I'm sure he's a lovely man,though!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Nic.

Birmingham away then Fulham home.
Birmingham you would hope for a win but settle for a draw, another loss particularly if it's yet another thumping doesn't bear thinking about. If he loses to Birmingham I'd get shot of Keegan and get a caretaker in for the rest of the season. Someone who can batten down the hatches and scramble a few points then re group next season. Birmingham's last few results don't bode well for the barcodes.
Fulham at home is a must win as they are certainly Championship material.
Hope the wedding was good Nick

Scotty
I'm a Sunderland fan mate, I just find the whole Keegan thing fascinating. And as you know up in the north East there is a fair bit of banter between the Geordies and the Makems. I think probably both Sunderland and Newcastle will survive but there is no given here. I wouldn't have thought Ashley or the fans would tolerate relegation whereas at Sunderland we regularly bungey jump between Premiership and Championship and i'm sure Keano would survive the drop.

Diccus and Mark,
Thanks for the supporting words. Yes another bad day at the office, although we rarely threatened during the first half we looked ok until the first freak goal. After that Liverpool barely got out of second gear and cruised through.
The away support was as ever superb. Lots of singing and general banter with a few old favourites such as "You stole my stereo" "Sign on" " We pay your benefits" etc. The strangely subdued Liverpool fans, only really woke up when they scored and then went back to sleep again.
It must be nice to have so much success that you cannot even get excited when winning three nil, albeit against a poor side. Cue chants of "3 Nil and you still don't sing" and "We are gonna win four three" from the Toon fans.
Reminded me of the Man U support, with lots of new scarves and strips in evidence and goody bags from the supporters shop.
It was also depressing to see numerous cars driving away from the ground with smashed rear windows, parking around Anfield is not a good idea.
Having previously spent 3 years living in Liverpool during the early 90's I was hoping to see a big improvement in the city as a result of the City of Culture status. If anything it has got worse, with even more boarded up property, and many magnificent old buildings still completely neglected and left to crumble. What new buildings there are being concentrated around the riverside area and these are totally uninspiring. Their addition has actually detracted from the old cityscape by blocking out the views of the magnificent Albert Dock.
Made me realise how much Newcastle has been regenerated and improved over the same time scale.
The wedding was great and we stopped overnight in the Lakes on our return, enjoying the luxury of friends having the kids overnight.

It's only half time, Keegan hasn't given his team talk yet

Posted on: 17 March 2008 by Chillkram
I heard him saying he was going to play it tight this evening, so maybe it'll only be 3-0 or so.

Blimey! Where's Nic?
You must be over the moon, that was a game of two halves indeed, but all credit to the opposition for making it difficult. Now you've just got to take it one game at a time.
