Random selections...

Mrs S was out for the evening (see Local Pub News), so I was left to look after the kids. As this usually means playing children's games (e.g. Farmyard Dominoes) with Miss Seagull (2¾) I decided to play some music to keep me sane.

Rather than choose the same old things I thought I'd introduce some random element so let my daughter select the LPs to be played (I should point out that my LP collection is mainly 70's/80's rock music)...

Bill Nelson - Chimera Very much a solo effort will Bill playing virtually all the instruments. Interesting, must play it again sometime.

Peter Hammill - Nadir's Big Chance An old favourite this one. PH's 1974 pre-punk punk album, ably supported by the rest of VdGG. Cited by a certain Mr J. Rotten as an influence. So come on everybody, smash the system with the song!

Beat - I Just Can't Stop It The first, and best, Beat album.

Brian Eno and David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts Pioneering album, featuring samples, ambience and Byrne's characteristic jerky funk. Highlight being 'The Jezebel Spirit' which uses an actual exorcism backed by a thumping funk track which builds to a huge climax as the ghost is exorcised.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound Its years since I last played it (not one of my more regularly played discs) "ITs one o'clock and time for lunch..."

Big Country - Steeltown Big sounds, huge drums and massed guitars doing their best to sound like bagpipes. Stuart Adamson R.I.P.

Try this at home, the worst it can do is remind you why you hadn't played an album for ages...

Hmmm guess I'll have to get a wife and then some kids to explore the nether regions of my collection.

There is a simpler way of simulating the same experience which doesn't involve marriage and kids. Stand in front of record collection, close eyes (no peeping!) turn round three times and still with your eyes closed pull an LP out of the rack. At this stage you should reopen your eyes to avoid stylus damage whilst placing the tone-arm on the selected record. Big Grin
