Lighter counterweight for the Aro?

Posted by: Top Cat on 15 June 2003

Hi folks. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a lighter counterweight for the Aro - either from Naim or third-party? My cartridge is a little too light for the Aro - with the counterweight racked all the way in, I'm just achieving semi-balance but no downforce - but I'm not in a position to be changing cartridge in the forseeable future.

I'm slumming it with a blob of blu-tac on the headshell, and balanced accordingly (2.4g tracking, Clearaudio Sigma Gold MC - with wooden minimal body, kinda light, 3g IIRC) - but obviously I'd rather not have to do this.

Top Cat,

sorry I have only just been able to reply to this post.

With the lighter of the two counterweights for the ARO the minimum cartridge weight is 5.5g. Any lighter than this and you can start running into problems, but then I guess I don't need to tell you what you already know.

We don't do a lighter counterwight and, indeed, even if you can get somebody to machine one for you, compliance may become the over-riding factor here.
