Karin Polwart isn't good - she's fantastic. She is the top of the tree in British folk singer songwriters.
I have all her albums and since I heard her first Faultlines I have pre-ordered every album before its release. I have not been disappointed.
The other thing is Karine controls everything about her releases and it is sheer quality - no engineer plays with the balance of her CDs to make them car friendly. I'm not aware of any of Karine's releases being on vinyl though: I think it is CD or download. One of the reasons I maintain we still need both a great digital source and a great TT.
I cannot praise Karine highly enough - the best thing is to listen to her wonderful new album This Earthly Spell. It her best yet. This is the ultimate in contempary folk music. Please click here to hear some tracks. Also if you click here to go to Amazon you can hear one of the best tracks from This Earthly Spell.
Also you can freely download tracks from her site, but just saying who you are - please click here.
You know my favourite albums of this century are Oh My Darling by Basia Bulat, The Bairns by Rachel Unthank and The Winterset, The Drift by Scott Walker and Cammell Laird Social Club and Achtung Bono by HMHB, but my favourite artist to emerge this century is Karine Polwart.
For me, music doesn't get much better.

This album is up there with the best. It is the Folk Roots, New Roots of the modern era.

BTW In case it didn't come through in my post I think she's a rather fine artist and a hell of nice person too.

Sorry I think you were refering to the on-line magazine as looking interesting, I got carried away. It has some interesting articles that I'll read later (Thanks) - especially one about the wonderful, superb, marvellous Karine Polwart.

But still not as good as Kate Rusby. Or, to go up a few levels, Martin Carthy - the dog's bollocks of folkies.

Hmmm .... I like Kate Rusby a lot and Lou Rhodes, but there is something special about Karine Polwart and Rachel Unthank that takes folk music on a step.
Would you really prefer to listen to Martin Carthy than Karine Polwart, Rachel Unthank, Kate Rusby, Jenna Wills, Lou Rhodes, Katie Doherty, Emily Smith, Jackie Oates, Jo Mango or Lisa Knapp? I like his daughter's singing?
Oh well here's a link to Mr Carthy. It's good, but I prefer Christy Moore's version with Planxty.

Think I'll play some more ELP
