CD handling on an iMAC

Posted by: BigH47 on 03 December 2009

Prompted by some comments on the DA thread.

There seems to be a difference in how the mac deals with an inserted CD, sometimes it is quiet sometimes it sounds like a hairdryer.

Also after a CD is inserted and before importing, the tracks are not in order, but are after import.

When ripping sometimes it struggles at 4-7 times and other times gets up to 25 times.

Not important things I know but answers would be welcome if that is possible.

TIA

I have to admit that my drive on my iMac is very noisy on some disks and for some reason takes much longer on some disks than others .
However , on the whole it seems to do a good job . I set the machine to open XLD when I insert a music CD and it very rarely has any issues with reading the disks or ripping them , maybe one in every 30 disks or so may need ejecting and putting in again .

The total size of Mac DVD drives is very very very thin, any warping in the cd even by a percentage of a millimetre will cause that noise.
