NAP250 to NAP135 and not liked?

Posted by: ARC on 18 September 2003

I've seen lots of topics where the advantages of changing to 135s from a 250 are given. What I would like to know is has anyone made the change and not liked the outcome.

The 135's do the same job and make the same sound as a 250 but do it much better.

Everything is more effortless.

Talking the olive boxes for both, the 135s sound more clear, defined, controlled, transparent and effortless than a 250.

However, 250 is a bit closed in and warm, and some people get really attached to that type of performance. I think that's the same reason that some people prefer a 72 over a 102, as the benefits of the 102 over the 72 are similar to those the 135s over the 250.

Mick,

135's are great - I had a pair for seven years - but new 250 has more punch, weight, power, texture & control. It will make your briks come alive, it certainlu drove my SBL's with more authority

My life is one of constant juggling with cash. I fancied a NAP300 after Fredrik waxed lyical about it but the 500 is obviously better etc.

I will put the 135's into the dining room system, but I still have not made my mind up about the main system. Perhaps a new style 250 is not such a bad idea.

At my age I should be saving money not spending it.

Mick, Go for it, you only live once. IMVHO 250 vs 300 is close, but the 500 is much further ahread. You might want to try something like 3x250 active into your briks - but if it were me, I would keep your system as is but add XPS2 and Super dooper burndy - that will realluy lift your sauce and then dump the Hutter and get Fraim and then get a new 250. That will definately take your briks to another level.
