An Xmas Thankyou

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 23 December 2002

In the last year the generosity, knowledge and enthusiasm of the forum has helped my music buying greatly. This is what the Music Room is for.

I've bought modern classical music for the first time (Arvo Part and others), extended my African collection, started tentatively trying folk (Kate Rusby) and just acquired some bleugrass (Alison Krauss). These new avenues have been guided by forum contributors.

I hope I've also shared a few of my successful purchases too.

Happy Xmas to the lot of you, here's hoping for a New Year of more music.

Totally agree with you......for me I've discovered Chameleons, Porcupine Tree, Alison Kraus and Beth Orton...... long may diversity continue.

Happy Holidays (very PC) one and all big grin big grin

I couldn't agree more. The music IS what it's all about. Wouldn't it be nice then if, next year, a few more of the vociferous peacocks contribute positively to this undersubscribed part of the Forum rather than preening their egos on the Hi-Fi Corner.

Happy Christmas

Me too!
This forum has been a real 'find' for me. A bunch of discerning and witty folks with an eclectic taste. Thanks for 'the be good tanyas' Bert Jansch, Kate Rusby and the latest Beck Album - all in just the space of a month.

happy xmas

That is a big mistake. Fortunately it won't happen.

Oh I nearly forgot!
Big thanks to Greeny for the free CD and fantastic door-to-door delivery service!

A Hi-Fi test disc is all you need.

I'm not going to despoil all that electronic wizardry with something as mundane as music.

Just get a grip and enjoy those frequency sweeps!

Bah Humbug.

Not even a test disc is needed. 'Private Investigations' from Dire Straits 'Love over Gold' set on repeat has done me for 20 years. Oooh listen to that milk bottle, and the cat noises, and the dum diddy dum drum roll.

Seriously, I'd like to add my end of year thanks to everyone here (including the peacocks), for such great entertainment, info, tweaks, and music recommendations. Share the passion!

I can't hear any cat noises.

How far into the track does it appear?

You've ruined my Christmas.

Steve B

PS. Only kidding - Happy Christmas everyone.

Steve B, to tell you that I'd have to listen to it again, and then you'd owe me - big time. (oh alright, I'll do it)

Paul D, nice pressie, lovely package. It would be nice if another one came out with the Mars Hotel/Wake of the Flood/Blues for Allah period stuff. I'm hoping to pick up a s/h CDSII from Audio Republic late Jan/early Feb when the CDS3 comes out, so I'm looking forward to 'rediscovering' them all over again.
Happy new year. Good luck with the new range but if the CDXII that you demoed is anything to go by you won't need it!

I can't believe I've just done this, considering my aversion to being thought of as a HiFi geek, but the 'cat noise'(actually a guitar imitating a cat) is at 5:36.

I would like to echo this spirit of thanks to forum contributors. Since the forum's inception (was it 1997?) when Ken Chakhawata (then sporting a CD2), Damian Boys (still at Lotus?) and a few others ventured into Naim space to discuss music and HiFi, a wealth of information has been deposited -- from which I've benefitted enormously.

The music forum is now the one I most frequently dip into -- eventually sampling many recommendations. But in the "regular season" I typically fail to thank or sometimes even remember the responsible contributors -- a tendency not helped by the recent pseudonym epidemic and an insanely busy work schedule. The Music Room seems to remain most closely adherent to the original spirit of the forum.

Particular thanks to Todd Arola, Ross Blackman, Herman ?, David Hobbs-Mallyon, Peter Litwak, Matthew Robinson, Tony Lonorgan and Vuk Vuksanovic. Messrs. Ashraf and Benford still missed.
