Paul Kelly & The Messengers (Coloured Girls)

Posted by: Peter Stockwell on 27 February 2004

Hi,

A few years ago I bought the US pressing of Gossip. kind of liked it, but no more than that. On a whim I pulled it out for a spin the other day and was very impressed by good pop tunes with great arrangements and unlikely twists. And some, from time to time, strange lyrics. He sounds very australian, which he has every right to Wink, but the songs really have a way of creeping under your skin. I've located a copy of the Original double LP ozzie issue, hopefully it'll survive transit in the post. What else that's available on vinyl is recommendable ?

Gossip rocks played LOUD on a good system. The album that followed it "Under the Sun" is fantastic fun too. Great songwriter and living proof that Australians can be OK Wink

Probably still a little bitter over that semi-final, yeah.

My Brother was really happy about the final!, he lives in melbourne. Fortunately for me I've tuned all major sporting events out of my life. Over here, les bleus were well ... blue.

Very wise policy...saves all that tedious disappointment business when your team once again chokes..

Incidentally I'd bet actual money that Paul Kelly has sold more records in NZ than he ever did at home. Respect!
