Can it be true?

Just been looking on the other side. Has Mick Parry really been banned from this forum?
Posted on: 25 February 2005 by Berlin Fritz
I certainly hope not, he's the only sane reasonable man here !

Richard, I do not think so, If you take a look at the Royal(?) Wedding(?) thread you will find Mick alive and as well as can be expected, and still expounding his usual retoric ,his last post was at 9.30 ish last night,so unless something catastrophic has happend in the mean time i think you will find Micks helpful advice will still be given freely to all and sundry
oldie.

Mick acknowledges over on pfm that he has indeed been banned.
He hasn't been told why though.

I was banned a few days ago for some strange reason. Never got an explaination.

Mick Parry is not (intentionally) banned.
Stephen B - it may be that you share an IP address with a removed member. I take some care to try to prevent this but I do not do all the moderation.
If it becomes apparent that the banning of one IP affects welcome visitors - I will take the necessary action to get you back in.
Last night Tommy C went - I believe his IP address was unique.

Adam,
I hope its true that Mick is not banned from this forum.
He is a real ambassador for Naim on other forums and his views, which can be unique at times, are always most welcome.

Yeah I had a feeling it was just a misunderstanding/technical 'hiccup' of some kind!
Oh, and long-time-dead's back too! Ha - I knew he couldn't stay away for long

It's nice to be back. I'll try to log-in using my original username "Steve B" later. I didn't realise anyone else could have the same IP address as me though, I assumed that these were unique to a particular PC. If anyone can explain IPs without getting to technical?

Stephen,
Every time you go on-line your computer is assigned an IP address that identifies it uniquely. Some people always have the same IP address, while others are randomly assigned a different one each time they sign on, usually from a small range of addresses. To block a forum member with the latter set-up, a moderator would have to block a range of addresses - thus risking accidentally blocking someone else's in the process.

So the software is randomly zapping unique IPs or Tommy got deliberately banned for something?
Sounds like there's a few bumps in the road - no problems here so far - fingers crossed.
I expect it'll shake out.

Harry,
There was some real unpleasantness about some of Tommy C's posts so I'm not surprised he got banned.
I would be very surprised if Mick was banned though. Granted he does a fair job of winding up the rest of us but that's hardly a banning offence is it??!
Cheers,
JR

OK Jon. Thanks. Must have missed that. What goes round comes round. Didn't he used to post under another name - or am I hopelessly confused?
Without Mick the laughter quotient would be a lot lower. But he's not banned - so that's OK. With the new software and the absence of a number of older regulars (through choice or not being able to gain access) we do seem to have hit a transitional lull. This is common and to be embraced IMO. Not the near death disaster that I have heard about. Everything changes.
I hope your cold isn't affecting your hearing too much. That's a double pisser.
Cheers

Harry,
In terms of my hearing, luckily no it's not had that effect. Having said that I had the rare opportunity this morning to play some music LOUD since all my neighbours were away, at least until about midday when my next-door neighbour came back, so on went the Bee Gees HDCD compilation and boy did that sound GOOOOOD!
Unfortunately my cold has had rather less pleasant aspects to it which are probably best not detailed here...
I think a little patience is in order re the Forum. It's a transitional period and sometimes these things take time. I think things are already starting to pick up though - especially when Mick stick his oar in!!
Cheers,
JR

I agree. The forum (Padded Cell, at least) is getting back to the vibrancy I experienced when I was new (well, I'm still new). It seems there are a lot of newer members in the Hifi Room too.
BTW, JR, what transpired with the job thing that you posted about a while back? (Unless I'm getting mixed up).
Deane (broadband at last, ahhhh.....)

Deane, welcome to broadband now you can post all day as well as all night.
Posted on: 27 February 2005 by Deane F
I wish that were true but I'm on a 1GB cap so I'll have to be careful for the first month to see how that'll last. Not very well I suspect.
Still, no charges when I exceed the cap - it just slows down from 320 Kbps to 66 Kbps - which would be painful but not costly.

Hi Deane,
The update on my work situation is that I've been recommended a 'career coach' who has a set course which I can take over a three month period and basically it consists of a series of exercises, questionnaires and face-to-face meetings with the coach, the idea being that I get some clarity around what I would actually like to do. I start on Thursday which is just as well after the predictably poor appraisal I got at work last week!
Thanks for asking, and btw congrats on your new Broadband connection - it's good isn't it?
Cheers,
JR

Welcome to broadband
To exceed 1GB you have to do more than just posting. I have just gone over twice but that is due to the combination of me listening to music and comedy shows on the BBC , which I can't recomend enough, BBC Radio ( you do not have to listen live), my wife on for hours doing god knows what, one daughter watching pop videos, and the other one playing games.
Enjoy.
Jon R - Good luck with the career coach, let us know what transpires - I think I could use the same.
And finally rumour has it that Adam M has banned himself from the forum, something to do with his burning the peas whilst on line.

Indeed!

Yeah Jon. Good luck with it.
Just gone up to 1Mb from 512. We do a lot of FTP and it's a big help. Now got four PCs going through a wireless hub onto 512 plus the base machine wired to 1Mb. Nice.
Oh, and don't bother parking outside and patching it. We're nailed down tight!
