cd5 and CDRW

Two questions:
Has anyone managed to get a CDRW to play in cd5?
If not then what other cd player do you know may support this format?
Also- I currently have a nait5 and want to upgrade to a pre/power combo - what iseveryones experience of this upgrade and what are peoples thoughts on my upgrade path? ie. what models do people recommend and what sort of price would i be expected to pay for it!!
many thanks
Steve

Hi
I don't know of any CD players which handle this format of disk but DVD players which are designed to will play them quite happily. A possible alternative is to transfer the contents of the CDRW to ordinary CDR which play no problem in my CD5. Hope this is of some help.
Regards
Jim

Jim,
some CDSi were reputed to play them. Well outside design spec, though.

I recently came across this problem and found a change of disc resolved it for me. My old Arcam Alpha had no problem reading CDRW whether a Verbatim or TDK disc but my new Rega Planet 2000 doesn't read the TDK. Not sure why this should be so but it was consistent from one disc to another. Try a Verbatim disc, ensuring it's been finalised. Alternatively ring a few Naim dealers for advice. I know Creative Audio (Tel: 01743 241924) stock Verbatim CDRW so they may be able to tell you whether or not the CD5 reads them.

Paul,

The new CD players CDX2 and CDS3 will both be able to play CDRW's, these employ a new mechanism from Phillips the Vam 1250.
Is this a multi-session transport? If so will it play the non-redbook compliant "copy protected" CDs that some labels are now producing? Most, if not all, of these "copy protection" systems trick a multi-session player into using an invalid vtoc and so being unable to play the audio tracks.
Thanks,
Simon

Steve! About upgrading: flat-cap and hi-cap are extremely good upgrades for both the cd5 and nait 5. I believe that is a better way than upgrading at this stage to a pre power combo, unless you don't need more power than the nait5 has.
