The Forum Member Hierarchy - Just Curious
Posted by: PBenny1066 on 20 May 2010
Have been a proud Naim owner for 5 months now and loving it. Forum is great too. When I first joined I noticed that I was a "first timer". Then after a few posts I noticed that the rank of "new member" had been conferred. Today I noticed that I have reached the elevated rank of "member". Just a little curious, how does this work ? Number of posts ? No. of replies ? No.of compliments to Naim ? Dollars spent ?

Ah 500 posts for senior. Keep posting away!

You have to wonder how they came to choose 500 as the threshold for Senior Member though...

Don't give them ideas.

Can you have points be deducted for bad behaviour? Or, god forbid, can you be demoted ? I could think of a few posts that might qualify for the latter...

I suspect they are forum software defaults.
Click on Go, Personal Zone, Karma for the key.

No points for quality but points for quantity. The user moderated slashdot moderation faq model might be more fun

And at 10,000 posts (yes, it has been done), you get to reincarnate yourself.

So in other words there is actually only six or so members of this forum each with hundreds of names.
Then why do we disagree so much

Didnt "Fritz in Berlin" that when he reached 10000 posts?

You can of course be banned for 'slanderous' comments aimed at other members, deserved or otherwise. This can severely hinder the posting count and the accompanying promotions. Still think there should be a very senior member category.

Forum definitely contributes to hifi enjoyment (and knowledge).
Better knowledge/information contributes to better purchase decisions.

PS A new range of smilies would be nice.....

Paul, members hierarchy/ number of posts required details are in your Personal Zone/ Karma section.
I've noticed my Karma level is 3 of 4, I assume it gets to 4 of 4 when a Senior member?

Well, as a senior member I'd like to point out that this thread is in the wrong room.
