Executive Stretch

Last weekend I went on the 'Executive Stretch' excercise at my company's behest. This is a weekend whereby people from different organisations and companies come together at an army base (Pirbright in Surrey in my case) and experience a weekend with the reservists partaking in military style excercises. The idea behind it is to gain an understanding of the role of the reservists and also to learn a little bit about oneself and how one can operate in a team. I have to say that despite my reservations it was an extremely enjoyable and educational weekend, albeit a tough one.
My team was led by some reservist paras and I learned that, regardless of the political motivations of the governments who send these guys to war, they are deserving of immense respect. I had a small taste of what they do and, although I enjoyed it immensely, I could not do what they do and go to war. That would frighten the shit out of me!
I also made some lasting friends.
I landed there on Friday night and had all my belongings taken from me and military style kit and Bergen issued. We slept in the barracks on the Friday night and the woods on the Saturday night.
We did 12 excercises over 1.5 days including a night excercise and it was f**king hard! I have only just recovered physically.
Would I do it again though? Absobloodylutely!
