What does a modern pirate choose to wear?

Posted by: Chillkram on 18 November 2008

Top news story at the moment is one that is somewhat surprising (to me anyway!). I didn't realise that pirates existed any longer, at least not on any traditional scale.

Anyway it got me thinking, what does a modern pirate look like? Is the peg leg, hook and parrot on the shoulder still the in look or do they go for something a little more 'now'. A hoodie perhaps and their arses hanging out of their trousers or maybe more of modern chic twist on traditional wear like this:

Even more curious to me is how they hope to profit from the oil - surely wherever they dock they will be arrested?

Unless of course they plan to ram a famous landmark with it! Also I'm amazed a few Apache helicopters couln't make mincemeat of them and leave the ship vaguely intact!

The ship and cargo owners may well decide that the lesser of two evils is to pay something for the safe release of the crew, ship and cargo rather than being associated with the bad publicity of an ecological disaster of a burning wreck, outrage at a slaughtered crew, and delayed insurance payouts and increased premiums.

Look upon it a tax - shit happens.

On the other hand a strengthening of international resolve about policing and the prosecution of pirates along the lines of the Indian navy action taken during the last few days and the UK action of a couple of weeks ago would not go a miss.

Must be a right old laugh really. If nobody gets hurt and the Brit/s on board can earn a few quid from their story who cares?
Depp must be in there somewhere.

Suddenly the news is full of how these ships, cruise liners etc aren't armed, although many of them carry a 'sonic cannon' for defence.

A what?

Sonic cannon - kind of like Jon Honeyball's system (see system pix), volume at 11 o'clock playing Death Metal...or maybe the Wiggles (crunchy munchy honeycakes - drives me mad and it wont stop playing in my freaking head...)
