An alternative to a Stageline?

Posted by: TomK on 25 August 2003

I'm reluctant to spend the money on a Stageline as I don't play vinyl that often. There's a rave review of the NAD PP-2 in this month's Hi-Fi News. Does anybody know anything about this? It's about a quarter of the price. Can it really be as good as Ken Kessler says?

Stagelines can be purchased second hand for peanuts. Have a scour on Ebay etc.

Read the review, asked the same question over on Pink Fish and spoke to some People Who Know.

Consensus was that you pay £50 and you get £50 worth.

I have not heard one myself, though.

Tom,

I've tried the NAD in the past. It was ok if no great shakes. The Stageline is a very good phono stage but then if you don't anticipate listening to vinyl much, why spend more? Personally I prefer the Project phono stage over the NAD, but you need to have a 2-phono-DIN interconnect which would also cost you money.

Frank.
