VS1 switcher + DVD player - price, availability...

Posted by: thomas schiller on 18 May 2003

Hallo!

I´ve just bought a CRT projector which can display 1080p. Now I need a scaler/linedoubler and a new DVD player.

Who knows when the naim VS1 and the DVD-player will be available?
What will it cost?

An alternative is the "Key Digital Leeza" processor which is about 4.500 - 4.900 Euro including a panasonic DVD player with DVI output.
Will it be in this price range?
Will it also have DVI in-and output?
Will it be able to process HDTV material like the "KD Leeza"?

My audio equipment is from Naim including AV2. Therefore i want the video section also from naim. But if the naim prices are way above the "KD Leeza" i cannot afford it and i´ll buy the "KD Leeza" now and don´t want to wait for the naim.

BTW - who of the naim dealers can install a video processor?

Regards

Schiller

Same issue here. If the VS1 does not do the scaling another option than a dedicated video processor is a home theatre PC. Using software like descaler it can perform as line doubler, scaler, HD recorder, internet radio etc. And this can give equivalen quality at a fraction of the cost, the problem is if it's going to be in the same room you need to make it sient so you will need to custom build it and getting the software sorted can be a problem if your not that techy. Hi Stuart,
I know the avs-forum,thank you.
Beside the noise of a HTPC, the handling can be more tricky than with a scaler like the leeza.
Furthermore there is the problem with correct grounding when you are not using naim equipment but this also concerns the leeza.

Hi Thomas,

I know the problem of noise, so I'm aiming to build a silent PC in a nice looking box (mostly because I've had enough of sitting a room with something that sounds like a small hoover) and will be trying this as a scalar, my main problem is my plasma screens horizontal resolution not divisable by 4 so the majority of graphics cards can't generate it. Going to be interesting to see if I can get it as usable as a piece of HiFi, considering all the setup/configuration and possibly programing that may need to be done. Still should be fun messing around with it ;-)

I've heard about the problems with grounding with the AVS2 which I find odd as with my Yamaha DSP-E800 I've not had any problems.

Got it wrong, divisable by 8 is what I should have said, the only thing I can find that can handle 852x480 is a the Matrox Parhelia.

Have you looked at the Runco scalers. They have models specifically design for digital projectors that can scale to almost any resolutions.
The PFP-7 can scale to 852*480, the MSRP is 5000USD in North-America, no noise problems, no software problems.

BTW, Thomas, i can install and set-up a video processor, but a little to far to assist you. Wink
