Question for Naim Administrators

RE: Sec. 6.5 "Output Socket Selection" of the CDX2
owner manual - After pressing and holding the dsp button the display shows the following icons in sucession: "0", "0 oo", and "oo".

I'm figuring the large circle is the Din output and the two smaller circles represent the RCA's.

When all three circles are shown on the display, are both sets of outpts active? Does this change the output impedance of both and/or have a sonic penalty?

I'd listen for myself, but I'm still going through break-in and as yet performance hasn't stabilized. Thank you in advance for your time

Bob, permit me to butt-in in the absence of our Hosts at this time....

You are correct.

right again!

Quite possibly, although sonic penalties imposed by using nasty round earth cables would likely outweigh these! Big Grin

Seriously though Bob, I'd be interested to hear your feedback when you've established those differences. I'm far too lazy to try. Smile

best regards

Rico - still waiting through the break-in, which is grudgingly slooowww. I reserve all comments for awhile yet, since the CDX2 has been in about 10 days and clearly needs longer.

I have no way of testing if both inputs are active since I've nothing to plug RCA's into to.

I am a bit frustrated at the pace of things and was playing around when I discovered my player was set to both outputs active, hence the question to NAIM.

IF indeed both outputs active sounds different, then it makes dems and auditions suspect unless the listener insured proper set-up.

I threw it out here to see if there is an official protocol or to inspire someone w/a CDX2 to give it a listen and report back. After all, one can turn off the front panel display to make a sonic difference ----

Bob

I said "correct" before because you'd read the manual, and you were correct. Follow the instructions in the manual, use the remote control to enter the output jack selection, and check your current config. If it reads "0 oo" you have both active. If it reads " oo" you are running on RCA only. If it reads "0 " you are outputting on DIN only. It's very easy to toggle through the options and store your choice - I've tried it.

I played with one a while back and compared a Nordost interconnect (phono-phono) into a 202 preamp, just for kicks. You can read more about that on this link.

Meantime, the CDX2 is certainly a great player, yeah? One comparison to make is that the running-in is certainly more enjoyable and easier on the ear than the CDX was. Cool

No one working today?

Sorry Bob,

we're busy with preparations for the Bristol show this week so I must apologise for the late reply. Yes, you can configure the player to output through both DIN and RCA outputs at the same time but, as you rightly surmise, there is a sonic penalty to pay - albeit fairly small but definitely noticeable. Anybody can try this for themselves...

A dumb ass quesition I know but why would some one wish to do this?

Richard - no apologies required and thanks for your reply!

garyi- Some have implied that they a/b'd the two connections using different interconnects on the same pre by switching inputs.

In my case, I'd left the display off, and one of the three females I live w/ was apparently pushing buttons to get it back on. So, I discoverd the two active output icon was where the unit ended up. "It's NOT just like the other one!".

You are an ape or a monkey living with a band of 'females'? Interesting. Particularly as they seem to have pretty good hifi in the zoo...

And your typing ain't too bad either. Ever tried typing Hamlet's to-be-or-not soliloquy? You might be the ape who can!

Herm - interesting take on my careful choice of the word "female". Deliberately chosen since two are too young to be "women".

And yes, the hi fi is very good here in the zoo!
