Happy days are here! My local Tower has tons o’ signs proclaiming that both Vivendi Universal and Sony have dropped their standard CD prices, Sony down to $12.99 a disc. On sale, that translates to $10 a pop. (I face no sales tax, so that’s a straight dollar amount!) That Murray Perahia set of Bach’s English Suites is looking pretty good at $20 for both discs. And then there’s a few more volumes of the Ligeti Edition to consider. And, and, and . . . The Vivendi cut is only down to $16 per disc on premium releases, which is only a buck cheaper than my usual local yokel shop, which has a much greater selection, and on the reissues (Bless those Originals and Eloquence series!) the local shop still wins out. (In fact, as a result of this other shop’s selection and sales, I haven’t been to Tower for months.) Go forth and buy up before the good times inevitably end.
