Ultimate Seventies Supergroup
Posted by: graham55 on 10 July 2005
So, people, the Seventies were the last time that we had real musicians in groups.
If we had to have our own "Supergroup", who would be in it?
To make it fair for the rest, I propose to have a ban (entirely arbitrary) on the inclusion of Jimi Hendrix - after all, he could sing, play guitar, bass or drums better than just about anyone else about.
So, singers might include Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Jon Anderson, Lennon or McCartney, Jim Morrison et al.
Guitarists might include Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Jan Akkerman, John McLaughlin, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend and so many others.
Bass guitarists would include Paul McCartney, Andy Fraser, Chris Squire, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones and The Ox.
On drums, Keith Moon, Bill Bruford, John Bonham, Carl Palmer and so many others.
Fr*gging pointless, really, but how might it have panned out?

If you'd've said 80s - could've said Half Man, Half Biscuit and left it at that.

Love these entries - especially the Yes lineup. Also like the James Dewar reference which we dont know much of over here beyond Robin Trower (theres a possible entry!) Stone the Crows is only a recent addition to my turntable favorites.
Seems that most of the entries herein are UK musicians - none of which I can argue with - but just for fun how about a US only lineup - I suggest the following (sticking loosely to the classic rock genre)
Vocals: Dio
Guitar: Joe Walsh
Guitar: Leslie West
Slide Guitar: Duane Allman
Bass: Larry Graham (you think he can't rock? listen to his song "The Jam") but if you think he can't then how about Jack Casady
Drums: Terry Bozzio (tough choice...remember Neil Peart is Canadian)
Keyboards (B3): Gregg Allman
Piano: Billy Joel (not allowed to sing)
