Nils Lofgren

I would like to bring this under-rated singer/songwriter/guitarist to the forum's attention.
His main claim to fame is as guitarist to Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, among others.
However, I have 2 solo cd's of his:-
Breakaway Angel
Acoustic Live
Both are excellent, musically and sonically.
Highly recommended.

Steve,
Couldn't agree more. As you say definitely one of the most underrated artists of the last thirty years. If anything Springsteen should be in his band, not the other way round.
The early albums are my favourites:-
Nils Lofgren
Cry Tough
Prior to his solo career he played with "Grin" - "Moontears" being the most memorable track.
Some good stuff on the others too, particularly Crooked Line and the Acoustic Live album. Heard most of his albums but not "Breakaway Angel" - must put it on the Xmas list.
Can also recommend him live,he still does the rounds in the UK, although he doesn't do the bit on the trampoline anymore!

Thanks for bringing this up.. Think I'll give "Nils" a spin later today.
Cheers
Keith.

A blast from my past, I have a couple of his, Cry Tough and Night After Night, which was a live double issued in 1977. I saw him at the Reading Festival in 1979 (Landed upright off his trampete) and a few times on the Old Grey Whistle Test. I have not heard him for about 20 years but "Keith don't go", was always one of my favorites as was "Incedentally, its over". I remember that he didn't use a plectrum and use to finger pick extremely effectively and would also play with his right hand down the fret board to pick out the harmonics. He played piano on after Neil Young's - After the Goldrush, when I think he was 17 and had never played it before. He also played on the later released Tonight's the Night and played some great blues guitar on this one.

I've been scouring eBay for a couple years looking for a cd copy of Lofgren's 1979 release, "Nils", which had Steal Away, No Mercy, Kool Skool, etc.
Not yet found one, but I agree he's an unsung rock hero who's a clever guitarist as well.
