How good is a 252?

Hi there,

Reading all this very positive feedback about NAC 552 I really have to ask myself how good is a 252 then? I'm about to order a ScapII and later a 252 hoping that might be the one product I need to have. Maybe it's the 552 I really need to have. Looking at the prices of Naim's preamps I must conclude that the 552 and 252 are by far above the rest. But the price difference between the two top of the line preamps suggests that the 552 must be still a lot better. Do I really need to be sad about the fact that I cannot afford a 552?

I want to forget about any upgrade when listening to a 252......

Poor guy I am...;-) (I know this a very comfortable problem, but......)

I've just bought a 252 and I am very impressed. It was a huge upgrade from my 82 but I must also say that I haven't listened to a 552......

Unless you can comfortably afford a 552, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the 252.

I was amazed how much improvement it brought to all sources; CD, Turntable, Radio......

The bottom line: Listen.

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

nick,did you replace the pre-amp only,didn't you have a supercap?i'm sill trying to figure out how much improvement i could expect switching a 52 to a 252.
