Hi Chris
Richard Digance formed Pisces with Tim Greenwood and John O'Connor and they played music hall style folk music with a bit of comedy. I don't have the album they made, but I do have a lot of Richard's other material.
The son of a doctor's receptionist and a cab driver, Digance was born in the east London village of Plaistow. Although he planned to study mechanical engineering, he was drawn more to the folk music that he heard at the campus folk club. A college friend of singer/songwriter John Martyn, Digance found his future calling in the humorous tunes of folk comedians, including Billy Connolly. Switching his major to English literature and modern British history, Digance transferred to East Ham Technical College in London. Practicing the guitar five hours a day, he supported himself with an assortment of jobs, including driving an animal ambulance. After several solo appearances at the Ilford Folk Club, Digance joined with John O'Connor and Tim Greenwood to form a humorous, music hall-influenced trio, Pisces. After releasing a self-titled debut album in 1971, Digance reorganized Pisces as a duo with guitarist Frank McConnell.
If you like Richard's music then you can get some of his newer recordings directly from the man himself by visiting his web site www.richarddigance.com. If you want his vintage stuff then get hold of
This one of the great bargains as it only £5 from the Amazon and contains all of his first three solo elpees: How the West was Lost, Treading the Boards and England's Green and Pleasant Land (which I have on vinyl - bought them when they were first out). The person who wrote the review on Amazon is an idiot so please ignore his desire to have Richard's music ruined by CD re-mastering.
Richard Digance is somewhere between John Martyn and Benny Hill in his style and it works. Here he is singing the wonderful Reason Why I Failed My GCEs. And one my favourite songs of all 200 Remembers.
BTW what ever happened to Hope & Keen and do you remember Love Hearts?
Hope you enjoy the Pisces elpee, you are very lucky to have found it.

Yes Chris, it is excellent. I really like her albums. She is great singer and the quality of the songs is always very high.
Have you watched all those Danger Man episodes yet? I've got through mine and what a truly great show it was. I don't think there is anything comes close these days.
Please let us know what you think of Richard D.
Providing info on Richard D and Soft Machine is something I'm always happy to do, as both have given me so much pleasure that it is wonderful to think others will listen to them as well. These are the artists I grew up with - along with Shirley Collins. There is very little self indulgence in this type of music, it is played simply because the artists like to play and share great music.
Enjoy the music.
