Steve Earle

Just heard a track off his latest (I think) cd, called "satellite radio".
Quite liked it, had a nice, simple groove.
Is this representative of his style, or is he usually a bit more "country"?
Country is not really my cuppa tea.
Any recommendations?

I heard it on the radio too. I think it is highly representative of his style. I saw him in the 80's when he was still allegedly doing Heroin, his stage patter was superb and a class performer.

I haven't got El Corazon but i remember it being highly regarded. Have a listen to samples on Amazon. A guess he could be regarded as a more left wing, earthier Bruce Springsteen, but that's probably a pretty lazy comparison Winker Might be a bit 'Countryish' for some tastes.

Of course the song 'Copperhead Road' is crackin'

Nah, that's pretty much spot on. Earle comes much more from a country tradition than Bruce's more straight-ahead rock 'n' roll influences. All good, tending to move away from straight country with each album.
Superb cameo in 'The Wire' too, incidentally.

He is more Country rock. His latest is not like his normal discs as it is more laidback so I would recommend you listen to samples before buying. But if you decide to take the plunge there is at least half a dozen discs of his you should buy including El Corazon which is my fav Steve Earle disc.

Thanks for the info guys.
I found El Corazon, & The collection on Amazon for under £4 each, so they've got to be worth a go.
Cheers,
Matt.
