All acts that have been mentioned before on this topic PLUS Eric Clapton, Police/Sting, Tina Turner, Rolling Stones (well, after 'Exile' that is), Led Zeppelin,

The Monkees.

I bought their debut Lp a few weeks ago to see what all the fuss/ what I had been missing ect... A great band ? This ? Pleasant period pop/rock maybe. Could anyone possibly compare this lightweight twaddle to the power and originality of other California rock bands of the period : The Doors, The Byrds or Jefferson Airplane (despite the many flaws of these bands) ?

I don't think so.

I can't bear 'em, but they are Mrs. 555 favorites.
There is a section in my CD storage labelled Pink Floyd Corner of Shame where her collection resides.

“My greatest musical embarrassment”

A new thread that would do good business if we're all honest!

If you believe Radio 6, ELO is cool again. So just consider your early indiscretions "directional"! Anyway, I'll see your ELO and raise you with the Police.

Outlandos excepted. Confused

Amen, brother!

Trouble is, people (boys) of a certain age living on rose-tinted memories of watching the inevitable Springsteen number on the OGWT New Year's Eve special in an alcoholic haze, and thinking that Spingsteen (and a whole load of other stuff) is the mutt's nuts.

Yawn.

Has to be said though, the OGWT New Year's Eve special was always much better than the much-overrated 'Hootenaney' (except for the year Gomez did an absolutely fantastic cover of 'Soul Kitchen').

Thinking about it this and underrated threads are a complete waste of time, along with "best" " worst" "favourite" "hated". If you like an artist then they are best, favourite, underrated and vice versa. Its just another thread to slag off "populist" acts and favour the almost totally unknown but "aren't I cool listening to this act no one else has ever heard off.
My vote for underrated goes to Puce armpit vomit children, just can't understand why after selling 2 albums they never made it.
Posted on: 14 February 2008 by 555
Wrong!

I started the underrated thread in the hope of discovering new (to me) music,
& it hasn't been a waste of time.

BTW your "joke" is in the wrong thread Winker

Caravan are a million miles away from those other bands you mention and very much better too, IMHO. OK early Yes and very early Genesis are fine, but Caravan are an institution - a truly wonderful group.

Weren't Radiohead hired to turn off Blackpool lights?

This should be called the "I don't agree with their success" thread. Many of the acts here can't be overrated, by the only measure that matters.

One thing about Elvis though. Am I alone in preferring the stuff he did during the drug fuelled "burger" years?

U2, Bruce Springsteen, Manic Street Preachers, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Pink Floyd....I think that's enough for now!

I can't accept Oasis are overrated because Noel uttered one of the truest couplets ever uttered by an Englishman

Everybody hates <insert name of obnoxious singing(?) drummer here>
And if they don't they should.

I'm sure everybody would agree the attack on Oasis in this article is not merited.

I rest my case Smile

Gonna go with Pink Floyd. They have their moments (especially early in their career - up to Atom Heart Mother/Wish You Were Here, say), but beyond that, their self-importance and pretentiousness become tedious (and I usually have a soft spot for pretentiousness).

diccus i also am having fun believe it or not !

another one: PRINCE if that is his current name, it should be little tosser! Roll Eyes

Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross and Frank Sinatra - don't understand the appeal of any of them

I guess it is a bit negative to list people whose music doesn't appeal to me, is it useful for anybody to know about music I've heard and just disliked or thought of as elevator music?
