Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross and Frank Sinatra - don't understand the appeal of any of them
I guess it is a bit negative to list people whose music doesn't appeal to me, is it useful for anybody to know about music I've heard and just disliked or thought of as elevator music?
Superstition or Living For The City "elevator music"? Whaaaaaaaaat? Stevie Wonder needs to be assessed outside the context of UK radio play. Have a listen to "Original Musiquarium" and try again...

No, Lennon's solo output is pretty patchy too, certainly nothing much up to what he was doing in the Fab Four. There are some good bits, but you can say the same of Macca (I'd much rather listen to Live and Let Die than Imagine...)
Other "sum of parts" examples springing to mind are Pink Floyd and The Police.

Hi Pete
This is where we are all just saying what we like and what we don't - I cant justify my views on objective grounds - I do know the two Stevie Wonder you mention and they are simply not the kind of music I enjoy - I accept I may be odd, (but sure ain't weird - sorry a little bit of the good Captain coming in there).
However, I can't stand the Police or Sting, but Andy Summers was in a superb group called Dantalion's Chariot who released one of the great singles Madman Running Through the Fields in 1967.
Of course I'm not going to agree about Pink Floyd, because Madcap Laughs and Barrett are two of my most prized records. Syd was a flawed genius. Subsequent Floyd output was very good even if it could never match the heights of Roger Keith Barrett.
Yes it's all opinion - I'm going to stop commenting further about what I don't like as I'm sure I'll hit on somebody's favourite band and then I'll have to explain again why I'd sooner listen to Chas n Dave than Coldplay ....

But again that's in collaboration with others, where he shines, rather than alone, where IMHO he doesn't.

Wasn't thinking about Syd, TBH. Ummagumma's "experimental solo" disc is a pretty good illustration of the direction I was thinking. Stuff from Gilmour's last solo that I heard seemed rather dull and Waters' stuff I've heard suggested needing someone else to tell him when to stop.
Back to Stevie, do you really not even like Fingertips? Perhaps you have no soul when it comes to Soul...

Another vote for Elvis....Costello. At least his out put after the first few albums. And Andrew Bloody Lloyd Webber. The world's ugliest man wins an award for taking the tiniest talent the furthest. Bah humbug.

A lot of this is highly contextual. In 1963 the Beatles singing she loves you was amazing. Obviously within 4 years or so we had Piper at the Gates of Dawn and psychedelia and the genie was out of the bottle for good. So it may seem "crap" now (though not to me) but at the time it was enough to make me turn up the transistor radio under the bedclothes! (I was going to write tranny but the implications dawned on me before I hit "post"!)

I know what you mean Chris.
My 1930s radio broke down recently.
I couldn't find a local repair service, so I Googled old tranny repair.
There are some very weird things on the WWW ...

The most overrated act ever has to be 'The Shadows' (throw in Cliff Richard if you like). Daft moves and a wrist slashing drum solo.

Probably not as long as it took to write "A Day in the Life", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", Etc. Etc.
As Rotf says, you cannot be serious. :-)
Four people that changed the world of popular music in a thread like this? Let's get a grip.
